AMG E63
So this week I've been at a meeting in the Brooklands Hotel at Mercedes-Benz World.
First time I've been there despite living only down the road, interesting place to be honest. As a short treat we went on track for a passenger spin in an E63. While I love the noise, these cars have never really impressed me but OMG are the brakes immense or what?! The take you on the skid pan and short track; the handling is rather impressive for such a big car - immense front end grip and like I said before, shockingly good braking. So much better than my car! Maybe I should look at one of these.....

That is what I remember thinking when I drove the M3 at Brands Hatch. And that was in the wet too, with both the standard brakes, and the Carbon Ceramics!

Did you drive a car with carbon brakes at Brands? I thought they were all steelies?

My neighbour has one of these. Previously he had a C63.
They both make a great noise! The C63 sounded like a Spitfire starting up....it was a glorious noise! They are great cars. I was very tempted to get the new C63 estate....but common sense along with the need to feed my family won in the end. But still on my list of "things to do!" |

Yes, I made sure I grabbed the one car that had them! I had built them up in my mind and they were even better. But then I drove one with standard brakes afterwards and was still very impressed.

We went for a day trip to Brooklands once, went to the museum first and then Mercedes.
Did the hot lap thing as well. Brilliant day out and very impressive run round the track! |

Didn't our Oscar winning friend with the big nose end up in an E63?
Anyway agree it's a lurvely motor, 2016 is the year of change and whilst it's between an M3 and C63 the E63 comes back into view whenever I let my mind wander. As does an M5. Or an RS3. Or... well, you know, you do it too

They are lovely cars, but remember the guy that drove it knew exactly what he was doing...professionals always make performance cars feel immense.
But you're right the difference between a quick car like the 335d and an M5 or E63 etc....is startling esp in the right hands.

It was nice and for 700 notes a month I'd be interested - however, and its a big however - the dash is very old school, especially when you walk round MB world seeing all the new tech in the S63!
