Amplifier is destroyed. Should I get OEM or aftermarket? *Update I fixed it, but...

Recently discovered a leak in the trunk seal, but it was too late and the amplifier was already corroded and unusable. I'm pretty sure I have the HiFi system and not the Top Hifi. I looked on ebay to see what the amplifiers looked like for both types and mine looks like the HiFi. I also looked at the guide to figure out what system I have and I do have tweeters, but I am unsure if the two vents above my idrive display are speakers or if its air ventilation. Anyway, I was quoted $480 to get a new OEM amplifier, but I wanted to see if there was a better aftermarket alternative that would be the same price range or cheaper and would be better. I don't plan to upgrade the rest of the system anytime soon, but it is an option for the future. Car is a 2013 335is e93

EDIT * I just tried soaking the circuit board with isopropyl alcohol 91% and tried to remove as much rust as I could. The amplifier works again. However, I'm worried that continuing to use it will damage the harnass on my car. There seems to be a little bit of rust on the connectors in the amp. Theres also some rust left all over the circuit board which I scrubbed most off. Can I leave whats left or will it continue to corrode - even if I don't let moisture get to it?

If you have Hi Fi the first choice would be Bimmertech

If you have Hi Fi the first choice would be the Bimmertech
plug and play Helix 82 dsp if you can afford it . The power it
puts out is more inline with the stock speakers.
It will be on another level compared to stock.
See the big thread on it , but the stock speakers are pretty
bad.

There are many ways to do the Hi Fi system though.
Most involve aftermarket speakers.

That price tag is a bit hefty. Not in my budget at the moment. However, I may consider driving around without music for a while to save up for it or something better. Whats the best bang for your buck full setup out there right now?

I just upgraded my stock Hi-Fi amplifier for the Bimmertech PP82DSP. Have you seen this amp on eBay?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/06-10-BMW-33...9WWLmx&vxp=mtr

I would offer you my amp, but I'm not selling it for $50

How much would you want for yours? How old is it and do you have a picture of it and part number on the back?

don't get a std amp they are awful rubbish

not sure why Jlxd600/6 amp isn't already on the table, get a secondhand one and Technics harness and more or less plug straight in.

(how come Technics website isn't up and running yet?)

here's a post where psmitty95 did a great job taking through how to fit and some thoughts on set up etc.

Does the JLXD600/6 Work well with stock equipment? How much better is it compared to the stock HiFi amp or compared to the Helix 82DSP? If I were to upgrade speakers and subs in the future would the JLXD600 be inferior to other choices?

The xd/600/6 used to be the standard replacement

The xd/600/6 used to be the standard replacement.
Yes it makes the system sound a lot better but its on the
edge of too much power with the stock speakers and a
aftermarket three way set will take the whole system to
another level.
Technic used to put these in on stock systems all the time.
Since the stock speakers are two ohm in the Hi Fi system
you are running 100 watts rms per channel.(You would be
running 70 on the 82 dsp)
All you need to put one in is a Technic Hi Fi harness and
a Power Wire Kit.
See Technics new website.
The 82 dsp is 55 watts per channel as oposed to 75 for the JL Xd
at 4 ohms but it has dsp (time delay and individual channel eq) which is a big advantage and you have
8 channels to play with instead or 6 , which means you could go active
with front tweeters and doors being run on different channels.
If you went with the JL and you decieded you needed more
sound control you could always add a separate dsp later .

Technics website does seem to be running its not real intuitive as far as navigation is concerned but if you play
with it a little you can find your way around.

Choose the series car(in the large series icon)you have then choose the system type and it has a good explanation
on everything.
and it gives you

You should correct that corrosion no matter what .

You should correct that corrosion no matter what .
Because the Technic harness plugs right into that.
Good job on getting it to work.

How can i get rid of the corrosion in the plug? The holes are really tiny. The amplifier socket also has the prongs really close together its hard to get the nooks and crannies.

You could try using some electrical contact cleaner.

the stuff is miracle cure for most things... (this article say it does this for electrics...)

It will protect electrical joints, plugs and components and prevent corrosion causing high resistance joints. This goes for PCB’s and electronics as well, such as computerised ignition and fuel control units and their multi pin plugs

BMW use it to clean their cars and motorbikes at service... its what makes them look like new

Do I just spray this stuff on all the rusty parts on the circuit board and into the harnass plug and amplifier socket? And leave it there?

I guess that all depends how badly corroded the connections are. In terms of what you could use to scrub it I would recommend an old toothbrush or something similar. Contact cleaner is pressurized though so it does a decent job without any physical scrubbing.
