Aftermarket HUD?

Has anyone bought a aftermarket HUD which works well.. Mainly just a speedo. Can't seem to find any decent looking ones at all online, thanks

It seems I have seen phone apps that simulate a HUD. You basically turn it on and place it on your dash and the GPS speedo reflects in the windshield. I'm not sure how it looks as cars equipped with a HUD have a special windshield, at least according to my owners manual. I think it is curved in a way to allow a clear image.

Why bother? It'll be one more gadget to keep up with as it could be a target for stealing if left out on your dash.

As long as you have Nav, you shouldn't miss the HUD much. Trust that I've loved it on my past two cars, and wouldn't get another BMW without it, but it's not a deal breaker. Having HUD just for speed isn't worth the cost. The Tech Package HUD does much, much more than just show the speed.

BMW has a HUD retrofit kit that's about $750-$800, and displays more info compared to factory. It also interfaces with your smartphone via app. IIRC, it's p/n 62-30-2-361-627

Unfortunately it's not very easy to procure, and I haven't heard many reviews on it either. It would be a nice kit to have, and if anyone has installed it, please share your findings.

It's a shame BMW doesn't offer HUD as a standalone option when ordering a car. I really hate to have to bundle it in with a package I don't want.
