What do Billionaires drive?

An interesting article from Forbes.

For some weird reason, the above link stopped working. The link below works.

"The cars and trucks driven by those in the Top 10 of the 2006 Forbes list was, in short, shocking. You won’t find a Bugatti, Ferrari or BMW driven by these billionaires."

I dunno about them, but being into cars is being into cars.....regardless of whether your a billionaire or not. So since Im into cars, if I were a billionaire, I would still indulge in all of my automotive fantasies. So I guess these guys arent really that passionate about fine automobiles, or they've out grown that.

I can see how it might a play a role in their security though, but if someone is planning on robbing a billionaire, im sure they would have some sort of plan first. Or who knows, maybe they would have been like "ohh look theres Bill gates in his bentley....lets go rob him right now."

I'd say most people that are billionaires aren't into cars - they're into whatever made them the money, and that probably isn't an expensive, rapidly depreciating asset like a car.

Larry Ellison is a friggin' idiot, he just oozes slime. A rich idiot, and rich slime, but a slimey idiot no less. The rest have the porsches becuase someone told them they're great cars. The guys in the old volvos and lincolns are great. I love subtle wealth. Warren Buffet still lives in a $300,000 house in suburban Omaha.

not spending his money on stupid shit is one of the reasons why he's one of the richest people in the world and 99% of the people on this board either wait for mommy/daddy to hand them money or live paycheck to paycheck

Course there are a different between new and old money. New money mostly cant be controled and have to be showen. Comes to easy.
Old money is from work - sometimes in generations. And here is the old rules counting. You never get rich if you spend money and keep your dignity.
Most new rich is looking to funny when they try to show it. No style at all.
Its not money who makes people - its style.

Check out this review.

What you got from this "news piece", BMW makes a 2007 550i that is called an M5 for $58k and is sometimes known as an M3 whose body style and interior refinements are from a 2008 and it separates itself from the other luxury sedans by the trunk opener. And those "in the know" buy an M5 because it has stitched leather steering wheel with three special colors.

Aside from that unbelievably terrible auto review, their news pieces just lack substance. It's as if they cater to 10 year old wannabe-millionaires. Garbage.

One owns two Bentleys, a racing yacht and a MIG fighter jet.. I don't think this fits the profile you describe.

He's one of the richest people in the world because he's smart at what he does. You don't amass billions in wealth by saving here and there. In Layman's terms, you go on the offensive, not defensive, to be a billionaire.

I wouldn't put much stock in Forbes lists. This one about what celebrities drive is no exception

I would love to see the land and homes they own. Thats where you can usually tell who has the big bucks..

These people are used to limos and private jets. But if i was in there shoes i would need 3 cars. Porsche turbo, 4dr sport sedan like a e55, m5, (or anything at this level) and last nice suv (range rover, ml amg, etc)

I love cars but even with all that money i couldnt see myself buying something more than 150k....

Bill Gates' home looks quite humble considering the amount of money he makes.
