No 6MT in Gran Coupe WTF ! :(
I just found out.
I haven't played around on these forums in a while. For about a year now I was positive my next car would be a 4GC in 6MT. I just found out they don't make it. NOOOOOOOOO That is all

It really is too bad, but the 340i with the rev matching manual is quite wonderful

Yeah, I guess people who want the extra space and doors are just kid toting soccer moms/dads who cant even drive a manual anyway. I mean why on earth would someone with basically a station wagon want to have the joy and excitement of driving a manual?
There is talk that the Audi RS4 Avant with a manual may be coming to the states...if so I am all over it:

Autos are faster, more efficient and better than manual in many categories that were once the polar opposite. I love rowing through gears and have only ever had manuals until this car and I will probably pick up something for fun that is manual, but I don't lie to myself about the progress of auto transmissions either. |

may not be as fun but they're faster than a manual.

Hell, they don't even offer a manual in the S3. Typically, the "cheapest performance trim" is the one with the highest manual take rate for almost any car (Mustang GT, Camaro 1SS, Cayman S, etc), and Audi doesn't even offer it on theirs. Which doesn't actually matter, because the Golf R is a better S3 anyway (hatch, better dash arrangement, cheaper, etc). But there is no VW equivalent for the RS4 Avant! |

The lack of 3rd pedal manuals is why I have a 340i 6MT on order.
While car shopping it became quite apparent that the manual trans seeker is considered one of two things: (1) a cheapskate looking for the cheapest car available or (2) a Crazed speed demon looking for a super car. The guy who just prefers a manual is no longer taken into account. "Why no manual?" "Nobody buys them." "But you don't offer them." "See?" It's hard to buy what isn't offered. So I'm grateful I can still get a 6MT in a normal car, even as I'm shocked you can't get one in a Z4 six or, apparently, a GC. |

Sure, they are a few dozen people on the forum that would surely get a 6MT 4GC, but BMW knows they will probably buy a sedan if the 4GC isn't offered with a 6MT, so they get their money either way. I might just go with the Golf R or Focus RS next time just to spite BMW for not offering a 6MT hatch/wagon. |

I have twins and I'd rather have a roof box than a car without a manual. For me it is a joy to drive a car with manual. I would consider GT or even X3 if it had MT. But at the end I ordered 340ix. I will miss the room at times but then most of the time I will be alone in the car having fun.
I know that autos are faster and more fuel efficient these days but I would miss double clutching when down shifting (by the way, BMW, why cannot I disable the auto blip in sport mode, why only sport+???). Also, I dislike the way autos downshift when slowing down to a stop resulting in a slight lurch - even in manual mode. |
