340i Standard LED vs Full Adaptive LED

Are the Standard LED lights that come with the 340i static non-moving LED's? And do the full adaptive (lighting package) LED's move with the steering wheel? Is that the difference?

Do the Standard LED lights move at all?

Anything else?

The adaptive swivels into corners, i am not sure if its also self leveling, it might be. it also have auto high beams. it nice to have when driving high speed on curvy roads at night

So are the standard LED's completely static? no movement, no swivels, no leveling?

Trying to decide if I really need it living in the Miami city, I'm not really going on curvy mountain roads at night, more like going south west east and north on flat lighted urban roads :P

The standards do move when turning the wheel I believe.

The standards do not angle left/right when turning the wheel. I had that feature on my last car, but I'd say it was only mildly helpful. But the lights do level vertically when starting the engine.

The adaptive LEDs do follow curves as you steer, but the lighting package also comes with the auto high beams.

The standard LEDs are more than enough for me

You have the standard LED's on your 340i? So they are completely and totally static right? The only movement they do is auto-leveling when they turn on?

Thanks.

Yes I know I didn't read the question carefully enough

Am I wrong to think that VLD (variable light distribution) can be VO coded for the standard LEDs? I did it with my Xenons and the lights move horizontally based on my speed.

I don't think you can. The standard LED hardware is different which would make me assume that there are no mechanisms to move lights side to side.

I could be wrong but that's what it looks like to me.

Standard LED hardware is very very different from adaptive. Don't expect any software-based improvements.

First i thought the adaptive LED (F36) is just left and right like the adaptive HID i had on my F30.

But I noticed there is difference in lightning output/range on different days. So I googled the LED headlight and there was a BMW PDF file that explained exactly what the adaptive LED does.

Apparently there are 3 or 4 mode. Urban, City and some other ones. Basically based on the speed you are going, the car will get brighter and further at higher speed, if i recall correctly it was at 110km+. When you are driving in the city, the lights will aim lower and dimmer.

I will try to find that doc. again.

it is a lot to read but very interesting if you have or planning to get the adaptive LED.

I think the extra $800 is worth the additional cool things you get. Is it necessary? No. So is BMW. Also the high beam assist is really necessary if you drive alot in the dark areas.

The LEDs are bright but it really does not shine very far compared to the ones with projectors.
