Tire punctured but...
The tire pressure sensor never went on. Right when I parked my car it got punctured. I got out my car I heard the air hissing, went back in my car no indication of anything. Doesn't matter how it happened I'm filing a claim because it's property managements fault. So hours later I got back to my car started it up waited a few minutes and still nothing, drove it out my garage to meet with a tow service to put on my winter tire as a spare. My concern is that the TPI never came on any ideas to why?
Yes the car is equipped with the sensors, wheels are stock run flats on 19' so wtf even when I checked the car was showing all green. Thanks |

I think they only work when the car is moving

If a reset doesn't fix the issue, may be a dealer trip.

The tire has to make a certain number of revolutions before the sensor can read it. If you changed the tires to your winter set and they are properly inflated, you won't get the previous low pressure fault because it is reading your new tires' pressure.

I do think that you have to run a short distance on the road before the TPMS activates and displays a message to you.

The warning only would have come up when changing to the winter tires if A) they are a different size tire with different PSI setting and/or B) The system was not manually rest. I am guessing from OPs statement; that this happened in the parking lot of an apartment or condo type area which is the likely cause of it not displaying since the distance from the puncture to your parking was not enough and even though air was hissing it likely did not lose enough air in that distance to trigger the alert. The system won't alert you for a 1PSI difference, normal pressure fluctuations are in the 4-5PSI range.

Everytime I add air or change wheels i reset the tpi but they shouldn't even be on when i put my winter set because its not equipped? Only my oem wheels are.
When I got to my car later that day to move it the air was completely gone and was driven still nothing came on. Guess I'm taking it to the dealer lol |

Also your TPMS resets after one full driving cycle anyway so this step is not necessary.
This certainly sounds like you have a radio failure from one or more TPMS sensors so going to the dealership is the right solution.

If you have a Canadian car, there is no TPMS and instead we have RDC. It uses ABS speed sensors to identify a flat. Usually it works well at high speed and after some distance. Pulling out of the garage will not trigger it.
Also, because it's a differential system if all your tires are low on air it won't trigger. |
