Whoa...that's quite a jump from '99. At first I only took note of your 5MT and thought to myself, that must be wrong because it's been 20 yea....oh.

Is xdrive really necessary in SC?

Don't confuse it with SUV type 4WD. Its a performance oriented AWD system.

But I also travel up to the northeast when I go " home for the holidays".

As far as I know BMW's xdrive is actually not a performance oriented system as it can be in some sports cars. It's primary for enhanced traction in winter conditions.

Performance orientated as in rear biased AWD, then yes. This is noticeable in spirited driving. Otherwise, xdrive 3/4 series suspension is my main gripe with this car. The amount of wheel gap is a visual giveaway that the sport suspension used on RWD cars is nullified.

It does get hairy up here in the NE during winter months, so I understand your decision.

It has been debated many times, but not many people mention the power delivery. Sometimes it is fun to fishtail a bit when accelerating hard with a manual RWD 335 but more often than not I am annoyed by having only one wheel drive in those cases. Not talking about going skiing to Tahoe where you have to lie to the chain control to get by with a RWD car, even when you have winter tires on. What would happen if you get into an accident? Probably you would be automatically at fault since 4wd with winter tires is required there.

How did you get Driver's Assistance Package (DAP) without ordering Driver's Assistance and navigation?

Sorry, that's Driver Assistance Package on mine, not Driver Assist Plus. So DAP but not DAP, haha. Maybe I should have called mine DA and the other DA+. You are correct you can't get DA+ $1700 without either NAV $1995 or Tech $2750.
That's why I didn't get DA+ because I really didn't want their NAV or the electronic stuff. I would have appreciated the lane intrusion and lane departure but not at that cost.

Any 6MT BMW is an upgrade over a RWD BMW auto car. A few simple suspension mods and the 4WD car will destroy the RWD car's handling. Nothing replaces the driver engagement of a 6MT.

…and it's STILL waiting for a ship…

Any idea how long it usually takes to get on the boat? Not to get here, just to get on the @$#&ing ship?

Seems to range from a few days up to 2 weeks. Mine was 11 days.

Great. It's two weeks today and still waiting.

Plus the TOTALLY USELESS "track my BMW" service still shows my car as "in production" despite the fact it has been sitting in Bremerhaven for two weeks. When I wrote BMW customer service they said there are no plans to sync up the "track" service with the actual status.

Things must be good at BMW.

Check www.2wglobal.com for the vessel schedule so you have an idea which ship it might be on. you can also enter your VIN and see if it's loaded into one of the vessels. Mine took 2 weeks to be loaded, just arrived NJ today.

My BMW tracking still says production ended by the way.

If you happen to get on a WW ship they have a tracking system by VIN. The other shipping lines can't be tracked by customers so only BMW or dealer can tell you ship.

Enter VIN in cargo ID box on this page. If it's on a WW ship it will show up about 2 days after it left and tell you what ship with ETA.

https://www.2wglobal.com/webapps?fra...uickSearchPage

Also the tracking guide sticky in the M3 forum has just about everything you need to know.
