Hood insulator pad? Parts person?

So, I recently had a 2015 328i loaner and I swear it was not as noisy as my 2013. I looked under the hood at it "seemed" to be a thicker pad.

I know I can stop by the dealer and do a comparison on my own but thought maybe somebody on this board might already know the answer and save me a trip. Did BMW go to a thicker pad in 2015 as the result of "some" minor dissatisfaction by "some" customers relative to engine noise?

Just asking and thanks in advance.

Main purpose of that insulator is for heat absorption, i believe.

Garage List
16 K71 F800GT  [10.00]
2018 F80 M3  [10.00]
2013 BMW E93 M3  [10.00]
If it's much thicker then buy a new one to replace it.

A thicker pad would only reduce noise transmission through the hood, not into the passenger compartment.

Except that noise also transmits through the greenhouse, so it would reduce noise into the cockpit.

It's the same part number through the entire F30 range (up to 2015 anyway).

It's the active sound in the 2015 that makes the car sound better.
