Would BMW be ok with this?

I got rear ended and I'm tended to convert the rear bumper to an M3 bumper, but the car is a lease. Would the BMW dealership be cool if I switch it to the M3 bumper? To be more specific it's the Beverly Hills BmW that I'm concerned about, as I got my car from there.

I would think it might vary by lease. If it were me, I would ask them just to be safe...and if they say it's fine, I would be inclined to get that in writing just in case they try to pull any funny business when your lease is up

Asking them is a good idea.

My gut reaction is you would have to put a OEM bumper back on the car if you were planning to turn it in at the end of the lease. If you decide to trade it back in and get another BMW they'll probably give you less for the car because it's not OEM.

You can also turn it in elsewhere. When I was getting my bumper painted at Nick Alexander BMW, they showed me a 435 where they put in a leather dash. Shop manager told me it made the car better, and they got a deal on it, so put it in for no extra charge, and that the owner would be fine on lease turn in at Nick Alexander since they did it.

Fwiw, I leased a tt a number of years back. When I got into a fender bender, I had the body shop put on the 3.2 bumper (different shape, and vented.)

Upon lease turn in, the inspector said "cool bumper" and that was that.

IMO depends on whether the car can be CPO'd. If it can't (excess miles, poor condition) then they probably won't care because the car is going to auction.

Not sure it will fit due to the fender flares on F80.

probably would matter if it didn't look right. for example - i just did my rims black. it's normal and looks good. however if they were bright red bmw would hit me hard!

so make sure it's real and not fake and make sure it gets done right.

What will you do about the quad exhaust? Unless you install quad pipes the cutouts will be too big.

Exactly. You are counting on whether or not the dealership even NOTICES. If it's subtle and LOOKS right they won't even know.

Things that are OBVIOUSLY not factory will get called out, especially if they look stupid. A CF hood with scoops, and garish vents will likely get a comment and deduction. Putting M-sport bumpers on a Sport line, they won't notice or care and in fact will be happy you just increased the value of the car and they don't have to pay you for it. LOL

You can't fit OEM M3 bumper without lots of adjustments there are aftermarket but this woudl be too obvious and you would probably be fined for this.... I mean OEM small conversion might be okay.

Just ask. They won't mind the call, and it's not like they're going to flag you and tell all the dealerships in the area to be on the lookout for the guy in an F30 with an F80 rear bumper. My dealer was very specifically lax on mods like that. The day I took delivery, he actually suggested a JB4 or similar tune, some forged wheels and ALL THE CARBON FIBER. He said as long as it's done professionally by a good dealer or Indy shop, very few places would care.

As above, there's also the fitment issue, which in this case is not insignificant.

It definitely won't fit. The sides of the bumper are flared out to accommodate the flared rear fenders and it would require significant modification to fit.

By the time you spec out a new 340i and do "lots of mods", you're well into stripper (but still well equipped) M3 territory.
