Ok dumb question: How much are M3/4 seats and will they fit?

Call my crazy but I would seriously consider putting in M3/4 seats if they are within 5k or so. Has any 235i owner done this? I found a thread here in another forum asking the same question several months ago but no resolution.

They might bolt in but I bet they will be too large and look weird.

Why wouldn't you just get the M Performance seats instead?

Aren't m performance seats rebranded Recaro Sporster CS? $6,000 for m performance seats is a big chunk of change.

This is just like the guys in the Corvette forums asking if the C7 seats will fit in the C6.

I would have to imagine that yes they would fit, or could be made to fit based on a couple of images from the seat bases in the part descriptions.

For one - they are seats, as long as you find a way to secure them to the floor pan they will fit. I imagine BMW doesn't do a huge amount of "re-engineering" on their seat rails, they most likely bolt right up.

If they didn't bolt right up, they could probably be made to fit fairly easily with a drill.

The biggest issues would be:

-M3 seats do not fold. So unless you plan on getting rid of your back seat, you would need M4 seats.

-The upper bolsters may be too wide for the narrower F2x - but this could easily be checked with a tape measure. Just would want to make sure they aren't so wide you can't get your seatbelt on.

-Based on some part number checks, they are not for sale separately right now.

-The electrical bits (light up M logo, seat heaters, lumbar adjust) may not use the exact same connector.

-If your on a budget, it probably won't be cheap to procure and ship a set.

Usually people I know who've done seat swaps have managed to find a pair being parted out from a salvage vehicle. But for something like that you may need to buy the whole car and plan to re-sell or part it out yourself after.

While you're at it, might as well grab the S55 and have some fun. ;-)

I get that some folks are disappointed by the lack of "M" seats in the M2, but I'm not sure that trying to fit M4 seats would be worth the logistical challenge.

As others mentioned, if you're dead-set on a new set of seats, I'd go with the M Performance seats. Though no options are really going to mesh well with the rest of the interior, except MAYBE the cloth M4 seats...

Recaro Pole position seats are a good option that won't kill the bank

Good info, thanks. I am not interested at all in the s55 but I do not appreciate when a 60k optioned car has seats outclassed by cars 20k less. It makes no sense they don't provide the option from the factory, imho.

Wouldn't the dealer know? I would like to see someone actually do this...

It's a common misconception, but no, they're actually seats made specifically for BMW and Audi and NOT Sportster CS items (they're built down to a budget for BMW and Audi)

As someone else said, it's highly unlikely you'd be able to buy complete M3/4 seats off BMW (and if you could, they'd be very expensive) it's the primary reason why stolen recovered cars with their interiors removed get written off.

My guess is the 2 Series and 3/4 Series floor pans will be identical, the E82 and E90 floorpans were. The standard seat mounting hardware (and seats themselves) tend to be generic across several ranges ie F20 1 Series, F30 3 Series F22 2 Series.

How much do the M3/M4 seats weigh compared to the M2 seats?

A friend is a UK seat manufacturer who has very close links with Recaro. I can tell you categorically they are NOT Sportster seats, despite them looking very similar, they're a seat that apes the Sportster and are built down to a cost, specifically for BMW and Audi.

Made by recaro same design then fitted with heated seat and side airbags. I'm missing your point.

I'm not certain but I would be surprised if the M4 seats bolt right up. If you can order the M-Performance seats for the M235i under the same part number as the M4 then you have your answer.

I think it was a guy on a UK 1/2 Series forum who put the Performance seats into his F20. Successfully.

Is BMW still making M Performance seats? Can you actually still buy them? All my sources seem to point to no.
