Angry Alcantara

Can someone explain what the hell is going on with alcantara interiors lately, particularly on door panels? The M2 appears to have it now. Did BMW have to get on that train just because the Audi s4 is doing it? Porsche is all over it lately with its GTS/Gt4 models. The second a mechanic touches that with the slightest bit of grease on his finger thats going to be on the door FOREVER. Does anybody actually like alcantara on a door panel or somewhere that isnt a steering wheel/shifter? It makes no sense! I mean ive seen alcantara covered center consoles - ya know where you rest your arm which be sweaty after leaving the gym. That will look completely disgusting within 6 months. Am i the only one who hates this and may completely avoid a car that has alcantara all over that will trap dirt? I want to be able to keep an interior clean

I am a sucked for Alcantara in the right places. Arm rests are certainly not the right places. My Cayenne turbo s had Alcantara seat centers and they were easy to keep clean there. They also held me in the seat superbly.

It's just too bad it gets dirty so quickly in other places becuase I think it looks and feels fantastic.

Good point OP. IN my head I toy with the Alacantra wheel but for a little extra grip the dirt factor puts me off. I write this however having not had any Alacantra interior ever

I love Alcantara, but McLaren or Porsche have really overdone it in their cars. Alcantara on seats is really nice and I'll never ever get non-ventilated leather again. Steering wheel in Alcantara looks great, and feels nice, but needs to be maintained every week if it is a daily driver and/or your hands get sweaty.

I do have 2 cars currently in Alcantara trim (both Euro spec, of course): the M235i and the Golf 7R. The 2-er has it in quite dark colors, but in the Golf the Alcantara bits and pieces are quite bright in color (sort of light grey) - and after over a year of daily use, none of the 2 cars has any stains to talk about.

But of course - with door trim and other similar places, often touched my mechanics and difficult to cover with protective covers when in servicing - the probability of getting it dirty becomes quite high; same with the steering wheel...

I love and hate alcantara...Its a great material but I find that it soaks up odors almost as bad as cloth. Who wants a car you cant fart in?

The M2 doesn't have enough alcantara. So far it's just on the door cards and handbrake right? Who actually touches the door card of their door? You've got a door handle and the hard plastic faux leather of the top door sill to touch. 33k miles in on my 1er and those pieces are still perfect. Honestly the leather on the handbrake itself looks in significantly worse condition than any of the alcantara bits in the car including the handbrake boot.

In fact none of the pieces in my 1er are in poor condition. Pro tip: Don't spill stuff in the car.
