Lost Wheel Lock Key
Hi guys. I have a 14 328i sport. With the 18 inch sport wheels that come with the sport line. Got a nail in tires few weeks ago and ordered a new one. Took it to discount tire to replace and found out missing the wheel lock key. Called the dealer and there's nothing they can do expect take the car in the back. Charge $125 per hour and match my wheel lock to a master set of keys they have. And if they don't have my key they have to order it. Told them that's BS. Anyway just wondering if you guys ran into this problem before? I will be inserting a pic of the wheel lock and the pattern. Looking for any help on getting this lock off so I can Change the tire.
Thanks! |

I overheard a tech at a local discount tire shop offer to break off the wheel lock on someones e92 since she lost the wheel-lock key. Not sure what that involves. I would check with the tire shop. They can probably work something out since it seems common to lose a wheel lock key.

Have checked tool storage area above your battery? (back right corner of your trunk) That's where I store mine.

Did dealer want $125 to give you new wheel locks or to just unlock the current lock?
I went through this exact same thing yesterday only with my land cruiser. Got new tires put on at local tire shop, the clowns broke the wheel lock key putting the keys BACK ON. morons! They still tried to claim it was my fault and the key was faulty. Anyway, they wanted to keep the truck all day to try and hack the lock off. I wasn't happy with that approach so I drove to Toyota dealer and they pulled out their master set, found the key and popped the key lock off for me in like 5 minutes free of charge. I put a regular lug nut on and off I went. Other option, if you don't want the locks anymore, is to have someone weld a nut on the end of the lock, unscrew and replace with regular stud. |

These wheel lock come with a code card. Check if you have that in your car documents. So it would be clear what code your wheel lock have and you could reorder one.
I don't know how many different lock types are made, but as they are coded, it's easy to get a replacement nut.
