ECU tuning group
Hello
Just recently got a 435xi with sport package 2 weeks ago so im still fairly new. Will be installing a INJEN intake and putting on the M exhaust this weekend. I am thinking doing ECU tuning group just want to see if anyone has first hand experience with their product. They informed me the gains will be 72whp and 88torque to the wheel, all sounds pretty decent. My concern is will the stock injector/valve cover seals/fuel pump be able to handle the power jump? I want reliability, heard some pretty bad stories with people running JB3/JB4 FYI with the Injen intake, anyone had any issues with rough idle/check engine light? Please share your experience, problems and what not. Thank you Last edited by M powa; 10-07-2015 at 11:36 AM.. |

As for tuning, whether it be piggy back or ecu flash, they pretty much give you around the 70hp and 90torque value to the engine (crank) not the wheels. This is considered the safety range for the n55 engine with stock parts. If you want to go higher, any tune can do it, but you will need supporting mods and upgrades like exhaust (especially the downpipes), charge pipe, intercooler, injectors and fuel pumps. Water injection/meth with e85mixture is another consideration. If you want to go extreme, I've seen a few guys at the tuning shops who've done turbo upgrades and got easily +450whp. The n55 engine is really no joke. The only shitty thing is that bmw put sensors into every damn component of the car, so error codes pop up all the time when it sensors something above the norm. For a daily driver like me (no intention of tracking it or driving it like I stole it), an intake and piggyback is plenty. Because my car is still under warranty, I can remove these two components very easily and return it back to stock every time I service it, and not worry about any major issues with dealer. The cai and piggyback is giving me around 70extra hp and 88torque, which to me is plenty (to put a smile on my face when you wanna go!!!!) and dust a few smartarses at the red lights, but still be reliable to take the kids to school. |

JB/JB4 is the most popular tune for BMW and has been a number of years. If this tune is not reliable, Burger Tuning would not be selling thousands of these units every year. If car has weak components ( failing spark plugs, etc...) a tune will expose it and it will not perform as it should be. This is true for any tune flash or piggy. Actually the JB4 is the only tune that will let you catch any bad component because of the datalogging feature. If car does not have weak components and you installed the JB4 correctly, it will perform exactly as it should.

I went with a jb stage 1 on a stock car. Increase in power was nice but it was sooooo not smooth. Then went to a jb4 after my downpipe. Was more smooth than stage 1 but just so inconsistent. I also could not run an intake. Finally got a tune by GSR. Not even comparable in power delivery and power itself. Eaaaay better.
Wish I would have went with my tune to begin with. Would of not had to deal with so many headaches. That's what I get for trying to save some money. |

Welcome to the flash club Did you get to Dyno pre-post with GSR or BMS ? I have met many folks on here throughouht the summer who ditch BMS Stage1 and JB4 (inconsistency) for RaceChip/Active8 and the latter for ECU Flash by EnzoPerformance among those I see here like you going with your local tuner.

The JB4 is fine if you unhook the battery during install and are careful about not letting it touch the +12 rail via the COM port. Now with the EWG board you don't have to deal with the +12v system so it's even safer.
There are some short comings in the electrical safety and weatherization of their product, but it's the lowest cost option so can't complain too much. The support is pretty quick and responsive too. |
