This is what happens when you have laws but don't add in a common sense check.

The law is rightly there to protect minors, however in this case definite lack of common sense by legal side of things.

Regarding the legal consent and video / photo age.

The forces have had a few cases of recuits or juniors having sex and it being videoed.

Usually no huge hassle, unless for example the girl is 17, then it becomes very serious.

The states are a nightmare to go to, imagine a full squadron detachment, with say 150 people, the majority being between say 18 and 22, usually all male.

The number of times we had lads arrested for something or other.

The worst thing is that if the law is upheld to the letter and it is as simple as children doing this between themselves then they could end up on the sex offenders register.
Also if a child then shows another child, they are guilty of distributing the images.
The law does need to be amended slightly to bring it up to the digital age.

At least they got the trip, I got left behind for Red Flag as I was under 21. They didn't trust us not to drink on detachment....cmon, I'm extremely trustworthy

Lol yeah we sometimes played the over 21 card or 'promoted' all non NCOs to single stripers for the States.

You never really missed much with Flag and Vegas.

It's just all Fast Jets, Fast cars (race track), Casinos, wall to wall hot girls that love our accents (especially Scots), that and you have to put up with it for 6 to 12 weeks, it sucks ...

It seems to me western culture in both Europe and the US is just completely dithering and confused about sex.

On the one hand, we have a trend of wanting to be very cool and liberal..and not be accused of being repressed. Hence the advancement of Gay rights for example...and people meeting and shagging like bunnies on tinder.

On the other hand, we're more paranoid than ever before about sexual predators, whether or not drunken consent is consent etc..

Nowhere is that tension more obvious than in how society frets over teenage sexuality. We end up with absurd rules, like you can have sex at 16, but you can't watch other people having sex on TV until you're 18.

I think it's very telling about how unresolved society's tensions still are about sex. We are closer to the 1950s than we think.
