I'm not an expert on the x5, but from what I've read the diesel is doing good especially for those towing stuff. I don't know how happy the DD are. You will have to become an expert in replenishing the urea feed tank as this is what allows this diesel it's low emissions pass. BMW and Mercedes have been very upfront on their efforts to promote diesel with their urea exhaust inerting. It costs more, but without this tech, your car couldn't pass Ca emissions. It works, it's proven, it get's good mpg, but it's ultimately not very fast. All depends what you want. You won't have to worry about software bypasses with these vehicles. The're the genuine thing. The specs almost always measure up. Happy shopping.

Don't you think you would get better feedback on the X5 forum? Especially since bimmette told you that you do not have to re-register.
I drive an E91, can't tell you anything about the X5 diesel, and I suspect most of here are the same.

check diesel subsection of this forum. Should be the same engine - M57.

I think one of the issues with that engine is carbon buildup.

Do they use the same engine as the 535d?
If so then they should be slightly more reliable than a N54, but with less of an aftermarket.
