BMW M PPK vs ?...

I'm new to these forums, but spent a lot of time reading. I just picked up a 2013 335i xdrive that is really pretty basic, only the comfort package, but that's ok as I'd like to put my own touch on it.

Trying to decide between the BMW M PPK vs JB4 plus other pieces. Is the PPK really worth it and is there anything included in the PPK that I couldn't get elsewhere?

The M PPK gets its value by being a blessed tune from BMW. Any BMW center will be able to service and diagnose issues with your car even with the M PPK tune. Also, the tune modifies the code in the computer directly instead of the piggyback method that lots of the aftermarket companies use. I'm not putting down JB4, dinan, etc. as most people get good results using their tunes. However I've watched youtube videos of Steve Dinan saying that an ECU flash is the "best" way to tune your car. My personal preference would be the M PPK. No additional wiring, just an ECU flash and enjoy Once again, this is just my preference.

As mentioned above with PPk you will keep your warranty. Obviously you will be paying a lot of money for not a lot of power.

Smartest choice would be to get the JB stage 1 or Jb4 and remove it before your dealership visit.

Can I leave the JB Stage 1 connected or do both the Stage 1 and JB4 have to be removed before service?

You want to remove it - its not worth the risk to leave on.

Btw, jb stage 1 works on top of mppk. It's a killer combo.

This question has been beaten to death along with AWD vs RWD, snow tires vs not, 335 vs 328 etc.

Read all of those and you will find your answers.

Is a $500 part that gives you more power worth it if it ruins your $50000 car?

Is a $1500 part that gives you less power worth it if BMW pays for your ruined $50000 car if the tune damages it?

Buy what you are comfortable with, risk, more power less money. No risk, less power more money.

You get what you pay for.

There is a good chance his '13 is/was produced prior to 7/13. Even if it isn't, the price is still most likely cheaper than from the dealership, before installation.

I concur, and stage 1 takes 2 min to remove, no wire splicing is necessary.

I'm liking the idea of the mppk + Stage1. Might be best of both worlds.

That is reason why I went with second option to be safe.

No, if you're considering doing the JB STAGE1 stacked on the MPPK, then just get the JB4 and forget the MPPK.

If you do not plan on adding catless downpipes in the future, this would be a nice combo for you

I recommend you keep it safe and remove the tune before service

I would have just gotten a stage 1 JB for $379 and removed it before each visit ( takes 5 minutes). It offers more power for way less money.

From what I've learner, there is no point to get Stg 1 and mppk. You would be wasting your money because the stage 1 will override mppk and render it useless. The stage 1 does not stack on top if mppk (would be awesome if it did though) . Someone can correct me if I'm wrong (I would love to be wrong because I would totally do it!)

It stacks on top!

Jb1 is additive to mppk gains. There's a dyno on the m235i forums of just jb1 (m235i = very closely comparable to the 435i with mppk) and the results are greater than that of jb1 alone on a 435 (iirc greater than 400 ft/lbs at the crank)

You can also find quotes from burger that it's additive. Jb4 replaces the tune while jb1 is a standard piggy.

I had mppk, thought it was ok but not revolutionary. Added jb1, and this thing is an animal now. I had an fbo g37 previously, and this car is dramatically faster.
