12V-sockets inside the M2

I don't smoke (except for, occasionally, the tires ) and don't allow anyone to smoke inside my car, but ensure always getting the "Smoker's Package" in all my cars (for BMW it's option code 441). Reason: getting that extra 12V socket.

Guess what I use it for in, for example, my 1M ?

On at least the EURO-spec 1M you could also get a third 12V-socket, more particularly inside the luggage compartment. It was part of the optional "Storage Package" (option code 493) which included:
  • 12V socket inside the luggage compartment
  • luggage nets on the back of the fronts seats
  • two cup holders in the center armrest between the rear seats
  • cargo net on the right hand side of the luggage compartment
  • two lashing eyes
  • two tension straps on the luggage compartment floor
On at least the EURO-spec M2, the "Storage Package" (option code 493) is standard. But beware: it does no longer include the 12V-socket inside the luggage compartment - that's a stand-alone option (option code 575).

My advice: you won't regret ticking the option boxes 441 and 575. It will get you three 12V-sockets (one inside the ashtray, one under the front armrest and one inside the luggage compartment). As a matter of fact, my daughter likes to recharge her electronic devices too when sitting in her back seat while my wife and I like to have "our" two 12V-sockets in the front to feed/recharge our electronic stuff.

May I wonder what made you think so?

The 2 Series' "Storage Package" is described as:

The Extended Storage package includes: a compartment with lid on the driver's side, retractable cupholders, nets on the front-seat backrests, 12-V sockets in the rear centre console and in the luggage compartment, storage net on the right of the luggage compartment, fastening strap on the side panel on the right of the luggage compartment, retaining net on the luggage compartment floor, two bag hooks and fastening points in the luggage compartment.

And this is exactly what I have in my current (F21) 1 Series, option code 493. My 575 option is an additional 12V power socket located in the front passenger footwell. 2 Series' description of "12V power sockets" option matches so I would guess the same code as well.

So are they really going to change M2 options' "meaning" compared to 2 Series?

By the way, AFAIK the current 1 Series includes a power socket regardless of the 441 (and I would expect the 2 Series the same). Yet my 441 includes a cigarette lighter rather than a power socket actually: I can't plug my phone charger into (the socket's too narrow) but it's all right with 575. I guess it should be the same with 2 Series and M2.

The M2 talk has definitely become stale since all there is left to talk about is 12v outlets now.

Patiently waiting for the reveal.

Yep...there is only so much "we peel back the camouflage..." post until you are just repeating yourself.

And people bumping old threads up.

Personally, I think that they should have debuted the car at Frankfurt. All the noise was about the Porsche Mission E, Bentley Bentayga, Jaguar F-Pace, Merc C63 coupe, and a few others. It seemed even the 991.2 911 with Turbo engine got more attention than the cars at the BMW stands.

If they had the M2 there, then there would have been tons of fanfare, and you could position it next to its bigger brothers.

But, I guess BMW knows what it is doing, and will make sure that the M2 will have a special debut.

Thanks for the clarification.

The EURO spec M2 list posted here states "575 - 12V socket, luggage compartment".

So should that read "575 - 12V socket, front passenger compartment" ? Or maybe EURO spec vs. US spec and ROW spec ?

Anyways, to those who fancy three separate 12V sockets: tick the 441 and 575 option boxes (at least for the EURO spec M2).

Yes, I know. I just presume it's a wild guess because that's too minor a thing to verify.

I guess yes, unless BMW takes 12V sockets in M2 much more seriously than some people here.

And those who fancy four, being a non-smoker , consider omitting 441, if I may add.

There are precedents: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=815301

We still need to discuss about the M2 vanity mirrors (lights).

Ah, so you don't care about the mirror cover whether you got to slide it sideways or click it upwards to open ? I guess that was a deal breaker / deal maker too.

And, mind you, the light emitted may be blue to suit with the seat stitching.

I think that the slide is way more classy, if I wanted to have to lift up the little door I would get a GT350.

Also the blue from the LED would definitely add to the ambiance and enhance the blue stitching. Good Call!

Compare all that jazz with the minimalistic approach of the Ferrari Enzo. "There is no entertainment, no radio, nothing - just built for drivihg, this car". Amazing.

For the first part: here.

Well, every little bit counts. I recall driving a 2008/2009 A5 one time. When brand new, it was a 60 or 70 thousand dollar car off the lot.

The windshield wipers were the most shameful wipers I've used in recent memory. I would risk to say my 89 Jetta GTX had better ones. And that's just to name one.

Probably as terrible as my 2002 LR Discovery wipers. There's a good 6" vertical strip on the left side that never gets touched by the wiper. Makes for a very large "A pillar"
