335i screeming high pitch when revving fast
My 335 N54 suddenly start having a high pitch screaming when rev it fast as the video attached. If rev it up slowly or rev at neutral, it won't scream! Any idea?

Sounds awful and my guess is a belt, tensioner or pully issue. please have it looked at promptly and good luck.

You better make sure your belt is not partially torn.....Google 335i shredded belt.
You won't like the end results....like engine replacement. But if it is the belt..... Look up my DIY on N54 serpentine belt, Tensioner, and upper and lower pulley replacement. DN |

How many miles on car? Lots of posts over the years questioning WHEN the belt should be replaced. Don't recall any video or sound description quite like that. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

I have had tensioners and pulleys wear out on an E46...it simply squeaked/chirped.
Lack of sufficient tension might result in slippage of the belt as the engine suddenly revs to higher rpm, for that howling to result. |

Yeah, and other than the squeak annoying me mostly when a window was open, there was nothing wrong with my E46 either, when it needed a tensioner or pulley. I brought the car in for other routine service (oil change), and asked the SA to have the squeak investigated. They reported by phone 'tensioner' or 'pulley' and I authorized the work and then picked up the car. It was still normal (like when I dropped it off), but not squeaky.
Have them check it out, if it is simply the need to tighten things, maybe it is a good indication to change the belt for a new one (which is not drying out and having a polished surface from the slippage on rotating surfaces Last edited by Wilt; 09-20-2015 at 07:01 PM.. |

My mechanic found out it was because the host that connected to intercooler was cracked! He need to order a replacement, the parts won't be expensive but require some labour work

if your already gonna pay for intercooler labor... you might as well swap out the stock intercooler for an aftermarket intercooler. plus while the intercooler is out... easy to drain and refill your coolant.

After I heard the noise, I didn't drive it hard at all to feel losing boost. But for regular driving, no power loss being feel
