Did you scroll through the onboard display and look for messages? And if it is service engine soon you need to check for codes.

How are we going to know what the problem is without giving the code that goes with it? Scan it and post the code? There are like 1000 of them...kind of hard to narrow down.

I assume you don't have IDrive so you will need to just the controls on the turn signal controllers to navigate to the service items. This is a maintenance (oil, brakes, etc) reminder not a Check Engine Code.

Is it the service engine soon light ?
For that, erasing the codes won't fix the problem. Or just saying your car needs service ? That's another issue. Could be damaged wires going to the oil sensor

The car is trying to tell you there's a problem, clearing the code doesn't fix the problem.
Next time it comes on, read the code, and post it here after you google it to find out what's going on. What does the light say exactly? Service engine soon? |

Your car could be telling you that some routine maintenance has become due.
Your car could be telling you something has gone wrong and needs attention. You need to better understand WHICH of those two things is causing the light, but simply clearing a light does not make the NEED go away, which is why the light comes back. The urgency of the attention really depends upon any reported ERROR CODE that an OBDII scanner can tell you...some are 'stop driving and shut off the engine now!' urgency, others are less urgent! |

If its a brake sensor it won't go away till you fix it.
If its a brake sensor (that is now warn through)it won't go away till you fix it.
It won't let you reset a brake job. |
