Talk me into it (or out of it)
I don't post much, so hopefully I'm in the appropriate forum. I'm looking for words of encouragement on both sides. I posted this in the 2Addicts forum as well to get opinions all around.
I'm very tempted to buy a 2016 M235i X-Drive - Estoril Blue, Tech Package, Driver Assist, a Driver Assist Plus, Cold Weather, HK Audio, and a couple of other dealer accessories on the sticker. MSRP is $55,515. Right now my DD is a 2010 BMW 335 X-Drive coupe (67500 miles, sport pkg, premium pkg, navigation, cold weather). Definitely love it, but that M235i in Estoril Blue just does it to me. I just bought my 335 about 14 months ago and owe $21,500. Dealer is offering me $18,000 for trade, and with tax break (6.5% in my county), it brings the trade value to $19,170. I put nothing down on the 335 when I bought it, so I feel I'm doing pretty decent on the trade value. Regarding price on car, they are willing to do it at invoice taking the sale price to $51,714 (I might be a buck or two off - I know it was $51,700ish). So with the negative equity in my trade (factoring tax break) I'm still around $1,500 under sticker. I feel that their price is pretty aggressive in that I haven't seen many folks get the M235s at invoice on this forum. Give me some thoughts - good price? Bad idea? Make the jump to M235 or enjoy my 335? Give me some words of encouragement! |

We can't tell you what you would enjoy more that's up to you and only you but if u bought that 335i 14 months ago and it's only a 1500$ loss I would say ur in a good spot.

14 months in and you still owe 21.5? I mean you're getting a brand new car, so... Even though the M235i isn't my style, different strokes for different folks.

I have a FBO 09XI Coupe and my father has the car your thinking about. My statement, his 15 235XI is a beast with no mods, go for it!

Based only on what's said, I would be tempted to do the deal for the M235i (probably the best car BMW makes right now, IMO....). 2010 w 67K vs 2016 new for little money. If the M235 works for you size-wise, go for it.

Have a friend who bought a M235i with bolt-ons (dp, tune, etc.). The first time I heard it, it completely blew me away. I could not believe an n55 could sound THAT good. I would buy the car just for the exhaust note, it sounds exotic IMO. Hope you find what you're looking for!

I thought about that. Couple reasons I'm okay with forgoing the M2 - first, this is my DD (I have a Porsche 996 C4 as my "sports car") and I need AWD for Cleveland's brutal winters. 2nd, I really don't want to spend much more than the M235, and I'm guessing the M2 will be starting at close to $60k.

Is it? If you do need AWD I'd suggest a B8 S4/S5. Yeah N54/N55 life is great but BMW's AWD system isn't the greatest. |

I think the 2 series is pretty sweet--too small for my needs(in fact the 3 is borderline small). But what I wonder is why you are thinking of getting rid of your car you have only had over a year. Maybe it is the grass is greener on the other side thing or you are the type of person who gets bored easily and looks for the latest and greatest thing. Some people are like that and can afford that. I tend to keep my cars (and most everything else) for long periods. But, once again those 2 series are somewhat rare(at least around here) and do stick out.

I think thats a pretty good tradein offer for your car. Personally I'd jump on it. The M235i is a great car, so I'm talking you into it, not out of it .
Also my suggestion is ditch the xdrive. The 2's and 3's are so much better with RWD. The essence of a bimmer in RWD, especially in a car like the M235i. If you need AWD, go Audi or Subaru (take a printout of the tradein quote, sometimes they - especially Audi, not sure about Subaru - will match it). The essence of those cars is AWD. |

Well now that the new S4 is coming out with a 8-Speed & Turbo 6 engine with less weight & "more" power than the B8, that could be a nice alternative.
It's more of a grown up STi with a great interior & will have some great tuning potential. I would have a B8 S4, but the 335i was cheaper & I don't need AWD (amongst other reasons). |

Yes get it. It's a great car. Got to drive it a couple times and I love everything about it. You're not losing much at all, so in the end you're getting a car brand new and in a badass color.
