Oil Filter Housing with Cooler Retrofit Question

I just purchased a 2007 335i with the sport package. It has a build date of 1/07 and does not have the factory engine oil cooler. I'm assuming due to the early build date.

Can anyone confirm if it is a "drop in" retrofit to put on a factory engine oil cooler and more importantly engine oil filter housing with the hose lines to the cooler from any N54 platform (535i) and if not at least from a 335i?

I found an oil filter housing on the internet but wanted to verify the compatibility before I take the plunge. Thanks in advance.

You should verify the interchangeability of the parts using schematics from RealOEM.com. The housing should work though on your N55, the lines I somewhat doubt.

Neither the oil lines nor the cooler from a 535 are a direct fit to a 335; however, the oil filter housing is interchangeable.

Thanks, I'll search the wrecking yards for a 335i then so there is no doubt.

I retro fit mine which came with no oil cooler. Just used the OFH from the cooler model and the hoses and cooler plus cover. Find a wrecked one and should be no issue. You will need a different fender inner cover unless you get that too...

Yes, typo! The housing is the same one use on the N55 also.

I've been looking into this mod for my car since it didn't have the cooler from the factory. On top of all the two lines, the OFH, and the cooler. You will also need the ducting and the trim piece for the foglight to direct air to the cooler. Further to that, and a further PIA to the install, is the new bracket to mount the cooler to the frame rail. To install this, you have to remove the bumper rebar (the actual metal bumper behind the plastic) and a few other parts to get the old bracket out and install the new one with the extension that mounts the cooler. You will also have to add an insert for the 2nd mounting point in the frame, but that piece just twists in.

As far as the new inner fender with the cutout, I plan on cutting my factory piece up and installing the grille into it. The new inner fender is $100+ so I'm going to give modifying it a try. There's already an outline in the inner fender of where the cooler opening will go along with the 3 bolt holes. I'm going to use those and the new fender grille as a guide when I modify mine.
