The CLA45 is statistically quick, but should pale in comparison to the M2 when it arrives. I've driven the CLA45 during an AMG Driving Academy autocross event and was disappointed by it's natural tendency to understeer at times when really getting on the car.

The M2 should be much better balanced at the track and on the road...albeit it, not as confidence inspiring during cold weather conditions compared the AMG.

Two great looking cars and fast.
BMW give you the manusl trans option and the BMW inline six engine is extremely good.

Every review I've seen of the current CLA45 completely bashes the massive understeer and horrible transmission.

Even if the CLA45 was really quick and has tremendous traction vs. an M2, I think BMW will tune the car to be a bit more playful and thus more fun. Speed isn't everything.

Plus, have to love a larger displacement 6 cylinder vs. the high boost 4.

The 2016 CLA45 will be quicker than 2015 due to recalibration of the tranny including better gearing in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th gears.

I would not be surprised if the suspension was tightened up a bit, but I think these two cars are different tools for different jobs.

No reviews on the updated 2016 CLA45 AMG yet. Lots of updates may significantly improve the car.

Brief track test (3laps) of the A45 AMG, although it doesn't have all the racy options on it:

Oh I didn't realize we were talking about a new MY. I guess we'll see after the new reviews.

Unfortunally I prefer a smaller engine because of taxes. The cars are already very expensive in Portugal, and paying 660€/yr because the engine is >2500cm3 is pretty shitty. The CLA would only pay 220€/yr. And also fuel economy.

Fuel economy on a 381 hp car?! 😂
If you want a real sport car (track oriented), for sure the M2 is for you.
Otherwise check RS3.
That CLA is a girly car, based on what I've seen in my country.

The RS3 has already been shown to be outperformed by a 290+ hp Golf R. And that it's brakes weren't up to par in the track compares to said Golf.

So, maybe the CLA45 and M2 may be the two to do battle.

Better fuel economy = lower tax. It makes a huge difference on countries with high taxes. Gas is also pretty expensive here, 1.5€/L ($6.4 per gallon).

So yeah, I care a about fuel economy.

It depends on what you are looking for.
Are the performances that are more important or taxes?
Common hot hatches have 2 liter engines.
There is also something more special like Audi RS3 with a 2,5l and of course the M2 with the 3 liter engine.
Test drive all of them and choose what suits you better!

If you compare the fuel consumption between the CLA45AMG and the M235i, they are almost identical (at least when you look at the American websites).

"....based on what I've seen in my country" driving a Jetta automatically installs a vagina on you, therefore you've got a girly car.

It's similar (6,9 vs 7,8 l/100km), but the CLA has 50+ more hp than the M235i. I'm guessing the M2 will consume even more.
My original comment was the engine size and how it's taxed here. For the M235i I would pay a 660€ annual tax, while for the CLA would only pay 220€. I know it doesn't sound like much, but after 10 years it's about 10% of the price new, and with all the other bullshit taxes we have it adds up.

A lot of 18 yo girls receive a CLA as a birthday present from their daddies
Comparing CLA AMG with M2 I would rate M2 the more masculine car.
Off topic we can discuss as much as you want.
My car suits my actual needs. I will replace it with an Octavia RS in a short time.
Your car is sportier than mine, but you have an advanced economy there!

Best price/performance might be the new Focus RS.
If you're looking for a below 10l/100km fuel consumption you have to look after a diesel model.
The values indicated by the manufacturerers are some bad jokes!
