I have been fiddling with the ELM 327 OBDII FOR A HALF hour and it keeps saying no connection. I have wifi at my house and it's connected to my iPhone and iPad. Any help is appreciated.

I find that my Carly connects with my kcan dcan cable with a otg USB to micro USB, but not Bluetooth.
Bluetooth connects with elm 327, but elm327 does not communicate with car. Mine is 07 335i e90 Frm1 if that matters. DN |

Is your ELM 327 a Bluetooth or WiFi model?
Carly for Iphone will only connect to ELM 327 WiFi model. Carly for Android will connect to ELM 327 Bluetooth. |

Is this your first time connecting?
This is how I did it: 1. Plug in your ELM to car 2. On your iphone settings, goto WiFi and choose network. I think its called "Wifi_OBDII" on mine. choose and connect. 3. Once its connected, launch Carly App and click on "Connect" button on Connection/battery |

Try 1. Plug in your ELM to car on your OBD port 2. Turn the car on, you don't need to start the car. Just push on button. 3. On your iphone settings, goto WiFi and choose network. I had a couple of instances where my e46 would not connect to any scanner (Peake, GT1, generic OBD reader), and the e53 didn't communicate with the transmission module.
My solution was to unplug the battery, then re-connect. That fixed the issue on both cars.

I have an ELM327 and found it very unreliable with most of the OBDII apps. I ended up just using a regular kcan/dcan usb cable and an OTG mini usb converter, and it works perfectly.
I did try another bluetooth OBDII module that did connect to to the carly app successfully, but if you do any coding, the carly app says to use a hardwired connection, not wireless. |

Hi,
Are you sure your ELM 327 is a Wi-Fi model? It will say it on the unit. Should check: Fuse Bent pins See if your battery is original BMW or not (maybe its not registered). Try to see if your phone can pickup ELM 327 via Bluetooth. |

Here’s probably the only answer that would help. I just purchased the Carly gen 2 for bmw and it would not show up on my WiFi network what so ever. Now me being a person that has to open up and fix everything I thought to myself how hard could it be it has to be a connection out of place. lo and behold it was. To open the adapter there is a fastener in the back of the adapter. Press firmly with your thumbs on the back of it and with your fingers griping the part where the connectors are (not bending the connectors) and u should see a little opening get a small flat head screw driver and push in where u were pressing with your thumbs there should be a separation line between the two plastic casings. And it should open.. when you have it open the WiFi connection adapter is connected to the mother board with a black piece of plastic. The WiFi adapter has 6 metal connectors and so does the mother board and the black little plastic piece has 6 holes in it to bride the two connections. Mine had a huge gap where the WiFi connected is basically bearly connected at all. The first led light will shine no matter the connection inside. Take the WiFi adapter module out and place the plastic connector on to it then place it back on the board firmly it should slide into place . Then re assemble it and wallah u have a working elm- Carly connecter, now if that doesn’t fix it the problem is more internal and u may have to return it for a new one. It connected instantly with no hassle after I fixed it. Hope this helps anyone even though this post is realy old there might still be someone struggling.
