JB4 Fitted Yesterday - Power Curves
I finally bit the bullet and had a JB4 fitted to my car yesterday. The work was carried out by the extremely professional Performance Centre in Sunderland. Thanks very much Dapple!
In case anyone is interested in the performance figures I've attached the dyno graph (on which I've identified the curve relating to the map). My car is running standard exhaust and downpipes, but uses Shell V-Power fuel. With this set up it allows me to run Map 1, Map 5 or standard. Plus I can easily set the exhaust flaps in the back box to my preferred setting. At the moment I'm running Map 1 with exhaust flaps open and am buzzing with it! |

Hi Denso,
Ha! Yeh, close but not quite. I knew it wouldn't make the 500 before I went with it. You need the catless downpipes to be able to break that. The guys at Performance Centre have done it. I'm more than happy with this mod though. |

Would you be able to clarify the results from Map 1 and then Map 5?
So peak BHP at what RPM followed by peak Torque at what RPM. For comparison, over the pond the guys are saying they see the 500+ BHP no problem using the JB4 with standard exhaust and downpipes with fuel equivalent to our 97/98 Ron. I'm wanting to fit JB4 start of next year. Everything standard except for K&N filters which I can't see making a gain. Baz

From what I can see from Steveo, he's just got the K&N filter with the JB4 and everything else stock. I was going to ask if he'd had a power run on map 2...
Baz, I don't have all of the data of the run, just the max power and torque from the curves you can see. I'm not going into the minutiae of it, but just know that the seat of the pants feeling is backed up by the dyno graph. |

Stock exhaust, running Shell V Power,
haven't done a dyno run but it spins in 3rd gear easy in dry, sometimes 4th. Car is great now, enough power for the stock wheels/tyres with 15mm spacers all round |

Just like everything in America, bigger is better. I have seen stock dyno graphs from the S55 making 430bhp @ wheels, all over Europe they are making 370-380 @ wheels stock. Ignore American dyno figures, or at least minus 10-12% to get a realistic number to use as a comparison with European dynos. |

More info from our car here, this is old data on old JB4 software, but still relevant.

Chaps,
Forget all the figures for a moment, can you explain to me how the car feels, and pulls on the road, after the JB4 ?. Is it a night and day improvement, or is it a umm, ahh, yeah its a bit better kind of feeling. |

So far I've only tried Map 1 and can say that there is a large difference from stock. The speed it pulls through the Rev band is incredible. First play it took me by surprise and I bounced the limiter in 3rd. Even standard, first gear is a bit of a joke, so 2nd gear take-offs are best. I've also tried some roll ons in the high gears and the increased torque is very noticable. If you try it in 7th in standard, say at 3000 revs it struggles. With map 1 it just pulls.
Hope this helps? |

Hi John,
No The Performance Centre in Sunderland fit it and dyno' it. (AKA Dapple) The Litchfield box sounds similar with a similar price. Does it have switchable maps and Canflap control like the JB4? Singh... I may just do that yet.... Time will tell. I take it you already have. Did you get it on the dyno? |

The Litchfield box has no maps stored, it just adds boost. Its a rebranded mass produced box, usefull if you want a simple plug in and forget unit, but you miss out on the JB4 features:
1. Customisable in gear Boost limitation for 1/2/3 gears 2. datalogging with high speed USB cable 3. fault code reader and diagnostics built in. 4. CEL delete for decat downpipes 5. M mode map for low torque linear power delivery 6. Steering wheel map switching with OBD connection 7. FREE future firmware updates and loads more. We now have a constant rolling stock of JB4 systems on our website. |
