bms intake (CEL) jb4 and state inspection

after installing a bms intake on my car i was greeted with a glowing CEL. installed a jb4 and magically the CEL was cleared up.

sooo, what exactly is the jb4 clearing out? clearing the ecu of all codes or only pre-identified codes like the one above?

i need to take my car in for a state inspection and don't want it to fail due to a lack of data in the ecu.

If you installed the intake yourself then I'd just reinstall the OEM intake a couple of hundred miles before the emissions inspection.

Why would anyone need a "state inspection" with a 4-Series? They are barely 2 years old.

In my state, inspection is required 30 days after purchase and every year on your birthday. Sucks.

that sounds odd. your vehicle inspection is tied to your birthdate?

Well, registration is tied your brithday, and inspection to it. I call it the birthday tax as car registration in this state is very expensive. About $950 last year I believe. It's based on the value and weight of the car.

Wow, that's expensive even by Canadian standards, and we get hosed on everything!

After two tests, the car ended up passing.

removed the intake and set the jb4 to map 0.

failed twice because I had the jb4 set to map 1.

Glad it finally passed. I always recommend putting the Jb4 in map 0 whenever you have an inspection

Hey mike. So if I manually clear the codes while in map 0, will that still not allow them to read the ECU? Will it still show not ready because I manually cleared the codes?

Yes.

You'll need some "drive cycles" to normal everything up.
