Service interval

All my previous BMWs have had their service interval reset during delivery so that the first service was scheduled for a year after delivery instead of build date. My F22 though was not.

What about yours?

Same here, mine is also set for build date, not delivery date. Doesn't make too much difference to me though.

Yup service intervals used to be manual reset but these days, follow the interval prompts. My 1M was a couple months late because I remembered the delivery date and ignored prompts at start ups. Service guys advised that I should pay attention to the prompts

Its advisable to do interim oil changes it pays off in the long run. And I always get an engine flush at the same time.

What's the problem with having BMW give you your included service a couple months early?

Only a win for you

Servicing isn't included as standard in Australia. I'm confused why some dealers reset and some don't. When I raised it when booking the service, the advisor stated that if they reset it on delivery, it would affect the long term values for brake fluid etc. doesn't sound relevant to me as the difference in 3 months won't affect the 50,000+ km values.

Yeah agreed. First service at 15000km seems very high to me, I would be happier having the engine flushed out, fresh oil and new oil filter. I will run mine in then get it done.

When I picked mine up I drove mine like I stole it and at 1200 kms I had my dealer change the oil, do a engine flush and replace the filters. Engine run in is about matching the rings to the cylinder bore, which can only be achieved by gas combustion pressure

I had my oil and oil filter changed after 5,000kms, quite worthwhile considering I saw the old oil and it definitely wasn't the cleanest.

Glad I've found this!
I just brought a demo 2014 220d has around 2500 ks (already done around 1500) and it says the service isn't due for another 9000ks.
Its my first "new car" and I was always under the impression that the service intervals are more frequent than this? seems like alot.
I've always gone by the rule of 10K or 6 months whichever is first?

Japanese cars generally have a 6 month service interval. While European cars generally have 12. But I haven't owned a Japanese car for quite a number of years...

oil change intervals

hi guys,
I was told by a mechanic that owns a 5 series, not a BMW dealer, that he would replace the oil at each 10k.
so done one @ 10k and the dealer did the 20k which was free for 3 years service.
Just dont like to chance not changing oil and filter.
also he recommended moly instead of castrol, but i stuck with the recommended castrol, as i didnt want to alternate brands.

any of you guys have any comment?
looking forward to the next 235 meet in Sydney?

thanks

Have my oil flushed every 5,000-6,000kms just depends when i can make time for it but it's always within that 5-6k mark.

After 5,000kms the oil looked horrible.

Don't know why they have such long service intervals.

Having cars considered 'Performance Cars' and M's being 'High Performance Cars' you'd think theyd know it has to be more often than it is advised

Same here, that is my plan. They do it to keep 'ownership costs' down apparently. Obviously a calculation over the short term in that case.

Unless you DIY oil changes, take a drive down to Peter at Advan Performance every 5000kms. Pete uses Liqui Moly and don't forget to ask for a cup of tea
