Nope, they sure don't. The E9X chassis they do but not this platform unfortunately. It's a simple oil change and a differential service. And hopefully they check your tire pressures.

They would probably charge you at least $150 or so. Granted it doesn't take much but that gearbox oil ain't cheap and they'll probably ask you for at least half an hour of labor. Might as well do it yourself.

No that's not necessary. The big reason they do it is to change the diff fluid as the diff does need to break in and leaves material in the fluid.

Why would you change it if they don't require it?? I think they know a little bit more about it than you do. No other car has transmission fluid changes, why is this different?

what do you mean no other car has transmission fluid changes? maintenance for transmission fluid is on the schedule on many other cars. and if you read through the link I just posted even the service manual says change at 1200 miles.

Out of 20 some vehicles I have owned only like 2 have been autos, the rest manuals. Changing the transmission fluid is extremely rare. I would not loose sleep in the fact they don't call to change it at 1200 miles.

I'm just about due for the 1,200 mile service. Can anyone tell me if it is a 60-90 minute process I can wait for while it is done or longer such that I should request a loaner? Thanks.

Ya roughly half an hour to an hour depending on how busy the dealership you go to is.

I wouldn't request a loaner... but if you are working then ya go do so. Or do it my way, I had them send me home so I can drive my other car to work, then ask them to pick me up when i got home to pick up my car

That's helpful. Home is a 30+ minute drive each way so I'll just wait it out at the dealership. Thanks.

Ya because they generally charge you for a loaner. It's easier to just sit and wait, or ask them to send you home. That won't charge you. (Did it twice now installing some MPE stuff)

BMW charges for loaners? That sucks. Neither Audi nor Lexus (last two brands owned) ever charged for a loaner. Some Audi dealers could be stingy and only give them out if it was a major maintenance interval but I was never charged for a loaner. I'll have to ask about the loaner policy when I am waiting for my car during the 1,200 mile interval...

I have not been charged for a loaner when I needed one.

For a 1200 mile service, doubt they would think that is needed. It's quick.

Break in should take 60 to 90 minutes.
Each dealer has different policies but most will provide loaner free of charge. You just have to fill tank or amount of gas you used.
