Starting 8/17 Oil TOP OFF will be covered under Maintenance.

As the title states, oil top off will no longer be a case of whether or not the dealership policy is to do it for customer satisfaction or retention.

Some dealerships will charge for the oil to top off customers' vehicles and some will gladly provide a quart to them at no charge but after August 17th they will be included within the 4yr/50k maintenance program.

If ANY authorized BMW dealership gives you grief over this tell them to refer to this bulletin: SIB 01 16 15.

WTF? I would have thought free maintenance included topping off the oil. I've had my local dealer top off the oil in my other BMWs with no questions asked. Who has actually had a dealer refuse to cover this as part of the free maintenance or a warranty item prior to this bulletin?

Try calling around for the dealerships in your local area and see if they're willing to top off oil for free. Not all dealerships are willing to top off oil for every customer that rolls in whether or not they purchased the car from them. You've just been lucky to choose the right one. It's all on a case by case basis and it is NOT part of the maintenance warranty.

Do you just normally ask them to top of the oil or something they do automatically?

Would the engine need to be topped off if there's no low-oil warning?

Most of the cars will burn a quart of oil before the actually service is due. They'll only top off the oil while the car is in service if the level is actually low; if your car is outside of the facility then you're on your own.

It needs to have the low engine oil warning on because they'll require a key read printout that will show this in order to submit the quart of oil to claim.

I was under the impression that the F8X isn't included in the maintenance program and only received the once free 10k service.

Interesting.

No you get full maintainence for 4/50k

Into thing that's not covered is ceramic brakes, neither pads nor rotors.

The reason BMW approved it is for tracking purposes. In order to better establish a pattern with an engine that may have oil consumption issues. The dealer will open an RO and this will be attached to your vehicle history.

This is a good thing. But it always made me laugh when people go upset when they had to buy their own quart of oil. It's not really that big of a deal, unless you have some serious consumption issues.

Yep exactly. This benefits the N63 N63T and N63TU owners greatly if they're trying to get cylinder heads or complete engines replaced under warranty.
