Stoner's Invisible Glass, it comes in a liquid and foam. Also you may want to try using newspaper instead of paper towel (if you are not already doing so).

I don't know why this works. but it does. I have found that I get the cleanest and clearest looking glass when I use Meguier's QD and a microfiber cloth on the car. Yes, quick detailer. Spray the QD on one side of the mf cloth, rub on glass, then follow-up with a dry side of the mf cloth to get rid of any streaks.
The only thing I haven't tried it on is on the tinted-side of the windows, because I'm not sure if it will damage the film. |

Invisible Glass is great stuff!
But if it is really bad, Klasse AIO works well, but might want to use a PC to apply it to take out the water spots. |

My windows drive me crazy like the OP said. Can't name how many different types of windex & other brands I have in the shelf that don't work. But today, I clayed my window and used microfiber to wipe and it's the cleanest ever!
So I'm sold on the quick detailer and microfiber wipe. The funny thing is I used microfiber w/ Ammonia free Windex before (w/ vinegar), but it was the cheap microfiber from Kragen and didn't yield any better results. I'm using a more plush microfiber towel now, and the combination with clay bar and quick detailer worked great. I will try with the ammonia free windex w/ the better towel and see if it makes a difference. Didn't try it with just the quick detailer. Since the op mentioned having spots and film on the glass, I highly recommend using a clay bar if money is not an object.

Also, if you are constantly getting streaks and film it could be your washing habits. Never wash your car in direct sunlight. If you have no choice, then dry the windows right away before the sun can bake it in. I always squeegee my windows immediately after washing, before drying anything else. For streaks that are hard to get off, try Griot's mild glass polish. It works wonders.

Glass is always a tricky proposition in my experience. I have read that there is no one perfect glass cleaner. This is due to the fact that you are dealing with both dirt particles as well as grease and oils. There are individual cleaners and methods better suited for each task.
I have also read that the streak free properties hinder the aggressive grease cutting action needed for certain residue. My method is fairly simple, but thorough and always involves doing each glass panel twice to insure complete coverage/removal. First I use Sprayway Ammonia free glass cleaner (from Price Club) with a dedicated microfiber window cleaning cloth (this is different from standard microfiber as one side has an extremely tight weave). I then do a secondary spray and wash using Stoners invisible with the same initial cloth that is now damp from the first round window cleaning. Finally, I actually perform a dry wipe with a clean dry microfiber window cloth that I dedicate for this purpose. This dry wipe is performed with medium pace and deliberately long wipes. (I have read that slower stroke prevents the creation of static charge on the glass) This step could almost be considered a final buff. Finally in-car smoking is a major no-no as it will leave a large amount of very difficult to remove residue and tar. I understand that this is extreme, But I have had numerous people try to talk to me thru my closed passenger and driver side window thinking that it was open. |

+1 on Stoner's Invisible Glass, when I need it.
Nowadays, after I finish washing, I do one more run through with the same car wash soap I've used and another sheepskin mitt and do all the windows and when I hose it off and dry it, no streaks, no spots, absolutely nothing. The car wash soap did the job for me. If there is anything left, Stoner's Invisible Glass got rid of everything else. Use it with a plush microfiber towel, and nothing less.

THIS: http://www.chemicalguys.com/Automoti..._p/wac_114.htm
I use this for the exterior of my windows. It cleans good enough, although it leaves a shine that looks 10times better than a window cleaner. I fell in love with the product the first time I used it on my windows. BUT I HAVE TINTED WINDOWS SO THE SHINE SHOWS 1000TIMES MORE. I have used it on nontinted windows and you can tell a difference, but not as big of a difference you see on tinted windows. The way tinted windows reflect makes all the difference. For the interior stuff I used THIS:http://www.chemicalguys.com/Amonia_F..._p/cld_677.htm It works as good as any product I have used, although it is much cheaper. It can be used on tinted windows.

I use stoners and meguirs also. If you have spots on your exterior side of the window, trying use a clay bar. I had alot of water spots because of the sprinkler.

you know what's a good combo? windex + newspaper... Make sure it's black and white and not color...
otherwise some of the brands folks suggested above would work just fine too. Make sure you clean it when it's cool, no direct sunlight. MF would work find as well (what I use). |
