Double clutch for manual transmission

Is it necessary to double clutch every time you up shift and down shift?

Sometime I double clutch when down shift. I never double clutch for up shift, you have to be very quick for up shifting.

To all manual transmission owner, do you double clutch at all ?

I dont do it ever. I dont even think you need to with today's manual transmissions.

I do of course rev match (and have perfected it since I got my car in September) when downshifting, but no double clutch. Unneccessary

It's unnecessary, but you can do it for downshifting to reduce the load on the synchros. Double declutching heel toe downshifting FTW!

Double clutching helps with transitioning to high revs (downshifting).

sorry, but what exactly is double cluthing? Is that when you put it into manual, and then from manual to another gear?

Only if your name is Lt. Frank Bullitt and you're chasing two hit men in a 1968 Dodge Charger.

You can only do it in a car with manual transmission.

The purpose of the double clutch is to match the speed of the rotating parts of the gearbox for the gear you wish to select to the speed of the input shaft being driven by the engine. Once the speeds are matched, the gear will engage smoothly. If the speeds are not matched, the dog teeth on the collar will "crash" or grate as they attempt to fit into the holes on the desired gear. A modern synchromesh gearbox accomplishes this synchronization automatically.
Easiest way to explain it is that you're using the clutch pedal twice for one shift up or down, instead of once.

The only time I double clutch is when I want to downshift more smoothly or don't want to slide in icy road conditions when downshifting.

The only time I double declutch is when I want to drive a 10-speed rig straight into my enemy's face.
