Whining Oil Filter

Odd question, but has anyone ever experienced a whining / high pitched buzzing noise coming from their oil filter housing that sounds similar to a belt fault? I have replaced my tensioner, belt, upper and lower idler pulleys. alternator bearings and pulley, and A/C bearing. All was quiet until the other day when the engine started making this noise. When I put my ear up to the top of the oil filter housing I can hear a high pitched buzzing / squeal almost from inside. Is this the case of the warped oil filter?

If you replaced it with a non Mann filter I've heard of other filters buckling and causing all sorts of issues.

I'd pull the filter and replace with a Mann filter and see if it fixes your issue. Hope you report back on what you discover. Good luck, bro!

Thanks - I had it serviced at a reputable indy 5,000 miles ago so it's due a service. I'll try another good indy and make sure they use an OE filter. Very weird sound for an oil filter to make - but I guess oil flowing over the paper fins at high pressure would cause some kind of vibration / harmonics issue if there was a fault.

Depending on mileage the oil filter housing gasket can fail over time.

It's as clean as a whistle around the housing, but I had wondered about that.
