Video: M2 look and sounds vs. M235i in French Alps
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com As you can hear, according to one of the guys on the side of the road, it's an "M235whatever". Thanks to forum fellow Gonven for the heads up. Comparo stills (thanks to forum fellow Macheins): More BMW M2 test mule videos (compilation): http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showp...83&postcount=1

M2 sounds nice.
If it sounds nice enough, do you think they'll get rid of Active Sound for the M2? They could then declare a victory for common sense? I mean what would be the purpose of keeping it? Or at least install an on/off switch. Sorta like the Auto Start/Stop. Geez, I hope they, at least, keep that selectable. BTW, the ladies sound nice, too. I take it that's them on the "cover" of the video. |

Wow. Just from that video alone we learn a couple things. It sounds good and is much wider looking than the 2series. Even if the this car is marginally "better" than the 1M, it will be a helluva car. |

So in short. No, they won't get rid of active sound. Let's get back to talking about how the M2 looks more or less like an M235i |

Oh man, looks amazing. Widebody is killing it!
I just hope this car sells like hotcakes! Hopefully it might even depreciate in 3-4 years, wanted to get myself one soon.

Are the kidney grilles bigger on the M2? Never noticed that for some reason.

M2 looks amazing so far. Is it me or does the M2's profile look lower? It might just look like that because it's wider or on a lower suspension. Either way extremely excited!

Please desist with these silly statements/comments about active sound. Have you driven any of the new turbo cars? I began autocrossing in 1994 and driving on tracks since 1997... so I think I know what I am doing when it comes to driving a car at high speed, high rpm, using seat of the pants feel, and listening to the engine ... Unfortunately in my 1M.. there have been more than a couple of occasions where I have been on track and ran into the rev limiter (hey... why did the car stop accelerating... Oh wow.... time to shift..!). Think this isn't practical...? Just wait til the next time a Harley or Crotch rocket pulls up to you at a stop light and you start quickly next to it... you will never hear the motor on your own vehicle. Street racing... ?? good luck and watch the tach because the car next to you (unless it's another BMW) will be louder... And the 1M tops out at 7k ( some would say one should shift at 6500 rpm... ) and it fucking gets there FAST.. Turbos YO!! Of course... I could change to a louder exhaust... or install an STI style BLOWOFF VALVE in my 1M so it goes PSHHHHHHHHH every time the boost peaks..... Yes... those would BOTH help me hear the car.... and they would also violate the warranty.. as well as the expense. I absolutely would welcome Active Sound on my 1M.... and frankly... most real buyers will either appreciate the feature or barely notice it because they never even push their car past 5K because they bought TOP OF THE LINE and aren't an enthusiast. IF you buy a car with Active sound.... and IF it bothers you that badly then I am sure there is a way it can be defeated.... 1- pull the fuse - FREE 2- or pay someone to code it out... ... CHEAP 3- Replace the head unit or speakers in the stereo with aftermarket items EXPENSIVE At any rate.... I just gave you 3 solutions to this " problem" .... Quote:

Because the aren't. The right picture (that of M2) is for some reason definitely stretched, adding to the perceived (already substantial) width (and grille size, as well).

Ah you are right. It's zoomed in more than the M235i pic.

Comparison is NOT ok, look at the windshield wideness difference. Resize pictures such that the windshields look identical, then compare.

Pic is definitely stretched. Everything on the car looks wider. Even the sign in the background is wider.

I'm completely aware of that. It was incredibly difficult to get the pictures arranged because the cars drove on different paths on the road, the camera angle is a bit off when the camera man pans back to the M2, and the fact that I couldn't get the photos to scale exactly the same. (Working with a cappy editor and two fingers, and a 6 second YouTube vid, etc.... etc. If someone else wants to give the comparison, be my guest. I suck at it. However when you watch the video, you can easily tell the M2 is much more aggressive looking.

The M2 - at the moment it's in more or less the same place the M235i was - is filmed with the left peripheral part of the lens, hence the distortion. Basics of photography.
