Power Steering & Air Conditioning Problems
Alright guys, I've got a 2007 335i 6 speed and I think I've got a huge problem. I started the car, and mind you it's about 105 degrees right now, and I hear this horrible metal to metal noise for about 3 seconds. Then it goes away, but my power steering isn't working and my air conditioning is out too. The car runs fine except it's a bitch to turn and I'm melting without the A/C...

To me, the first place to start is the status/condition of the belt that runs those devices.

Your serpentine belt is probably gone. Do not run the car until you determine whether or not the belt has wrapped around the crank pulley. Really bad shit can happen.

Had this happen two days ago. The ac compressor failed, along with the pulley having some slack, which apparently caused the belt to slow down. The slowing of the belt caused the power steering to go. I was very fortunate that the serpentine belt didn't let go.
