Unhappy Wheel balancing weights panic help!

I usually always clean my wheels by hand but was in a rush earlier and hit them with the karcher. One of my wheel balancing weights got blasted clean off! I've never heard of this happening before.

I've got a long journey to do tomorrow, what would you recommend? Is sticking the weight back on with double sided sticky tape a stupid idea? Will I cause any damage if I run the car for a couple of hundred miles without the weight tomorrow and until I can get it booked in?

Tips appreciated! Many thanks!!

If you know, or can clearly identify where it came from, I'd stick it back on. Double sided tape if it is clean enough, or preferably a contact adhesive.

BTW, I've had a weight or two fall off winter wheels when cleaning them after winter use. Stuck them back in place, no issue with balance.

Thanks Pete - I can clearly see where the weight came off as it left an outline of dirt. I'll try and double sided tape it back on until I can get it fixed properly.

No need to panic - if you drove without a weight you might not even notice and if you did the worse you would feel would be a little vibration at certain speeds.

Thanks Colin. I'm back from my long drive home and I'd taped the weight back on. Car felt fine and it's still there after all those miles! I'll book it in to have it refitted properly this week.

Panic over! Thanks all

As others have said, taping back on is fine but it's a five minute job for any number of tyre shops like Kwik Fit so if there's one near you I'd just drive up on the off chance that they will sort there and then

Thanks buddy! I'm going to take this opportunity to buy some nice silver wheel weights which will be less visible on my wheel and then get them all rebalanced and replaced

Get yourself a set of Bluetooth weights, you can keep them in the glove compartment and they won't spoil the look of your wheels

Brilliant. They'll complement my wireless tyre valves perfectly.
