What's the best tranny oil to use for our m235i?

Hey all,

I have a 2015 M235i without LSD. What is the best/recommended (by forum ppl, not "stealership" ppl) tranny oil to use in our m235i? Also, How many do i need to buy?

Mike Miller recommends Redline MTL. With that being said, you should use the factory fill. If anything happens to your transmission under warranty and BMW does an oil analysis, they will see that the oil was not "factory fill" and will probably deny a warranty claim. It's definitely a good idea to change it, but I would definitely use the factory fill while the car is still under warranty.

I believe you need a little under 3 liters. This link should help you...http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=620282 . Check Realoem to make sure its the right part number.

For an auto-trans I would ONLY use BMW specified fluid.

83222305397 or 83222289720

It is not inexpensive (ok, at $25 to $50/qt, I think it's stunningly overpriced), and, as noted above, either it or ZF Lifeguard 8 are the only things you should use.

From memory on my 335, the ZF transmissions take somewhere around 6 quarts, including the amount held up in the torque converter.

Not if it's an automatic. The AWD and RWD versions use different versions of the transmission, but they take the same fluids.
