horn honking

is it just my car, or when the power is off, can you not honk your horn?

i find it very odd that i have to have pushed the engine start button at least once (to turn on the accessories) to get functionality out of the horn.

I don't think I have ever had a modern German car that allows the horn to honk without the car running, or at least in ACC mode.

Hmm...I'll have to test and see. This is the first BMW that I've ever owned where the radio can be turned on and off at any time. BTW, my car has CIP 19. Well, I am assuming it does. Dec. 2005 build.

Only in New Orlean, people shoot their gun in the air during new year.

haha the only place where you would use your horn is the streets and hopefully your engine is running then. Other than that, why would u need to use it when you're parked (e.g. in ur garage, driveway, work)???

maybe to alert dogs, cats and little children to danger when ur sitting there waiting for passengers with ur engine off or perhaps warn soccer moms as they are backing up their minivans with the soccer sticker on the back of the bumper and about to tap ur bumper bc they think they own the road or just don't know how to park correctly.

The fact that the horn does not work when the car is off is a blessing in disguise TRUST ME... I have a friend that tried to honk my horn at me while my car was pumping gas and I was adding windshield washer fluid. If the hor had worked I probably would have needed a new hood because there would be a huge bulge coming up out of it from my head...

i often find the need to honk the horn with the engine off. like if you are in the garage waiting for your chauffeur to get his lazy ass down there and drive you somewhere. honk at him.

i don't think bmw believe in audio warning with the engine off. i guess the clown nose and angel eyes serve as visual warnings.
