Northwest BMW [UPDATE: 1200mile Service Complete]

UPDATE on post 12. (TL;DR: great experience at 1200mile service. No issues to report; friendly staff, free coffee)

Anyone have service experience here?

My car came from NY, but I dropped off my 335is lease with Northwest (had to pick my M3 up down the street from an Audi dealer under the same ownership as the BMW dealer in NY). When I was dropping off the lease, the Northwest BMW dealership staff was really nice and welcoming even though they knew I didn't order my BMW through them. The guy who took my 335is also has an M4 so we talked cars a bit.

I also went to look for a car cover (should have realized there was nothing out for the M3 yet before going) and ordered some touch up paint. They were kind enough to let me know that the paint has an expiration date so I shouldn't buy it if I wasn't doing repair work immediately. Never had a dealership try and persuade me to NOT buy something

So... from those experiences, I am using them (over Towson, which is the only other dealership I've had experience with (and it was NOT good... not horrible, but sub par in the least)). I will be doing my 1200 mile service and will report back!

One last question... I have the BMW exhaust valve module in my OBDII port. I was planning on removing it before the service. Since it's not a tune, should I not even bother? Or should I play it safe and take it out? haha

Call BMW of Silver Spring, ask for Thomas Grant. You won't regret it. While you're there, see if you can get your Encore Delivery done! Ask for Mo,(Product Genius) He'll go over the car with you, and just because you sat in the car with him, he gives you a $50 gas card! Go here: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1103837

Both @guitarman1 and I have gone through the process!

I've already made my appointment. And silver spring is much further; almost an hour away from me vs. northwest which is 20 minutes or so

BMW of Silver Spring is worth it, in my opinion. They're a good 35-40 minutes from me. They officially have me as a client. Good Luck.

Understandable. I'm going to keep my appointment with Northwest, but since I'll most likely be in DC next year, I'll be closer to Silver Spring.

Seems like a good dealership! But nobody has reported anything negative about Northwest, seems like at least one positive as well.

I brought my M3 from Kenny Hobbs of Northwest last year. Good guy, he will take care of you.

I got my CPO 2011 E90 from Northwest last year that they are pretty good. Sadly they are a tad too far from me in Alexandria so I have been taking my car to passport.

I drive from Bel Air to Northwest, for all my service.

Trust me, do everything you can to stay away from Bel Air/Towson/Rockville (same owner).

They will rip you off EVERY chance they get.

I talk from 6 BMW's over 10 years experience.

I took my 335is to Towson when I first had my car in Baltimore. Went in for service and alignment after getting new tires and wheels in LA. Told me they needed to do more than alignment. Turns out my axle was bent and they charged $1,700 without asking, they just went ahead and did it.

Stay away from anything that is part of the Priority1 Automotive Group. That includes BMW of Towson, BMW of Bel Air, and BMW of Rockville.

[UPDATE]

Just had my service done this morning and no issues to report! My car was in and out in about an hour, there were no 'test drives' or horror stories. Got the car in the exact same condition I left it in.

Service techs were nice and accommodating. I just chilled in the waiting room, had some free coffee, looked at some BMW apparel, checked out the YMB M4 convertible in the show room and read up on some BMW history while waiting.

Just an FYI Northwest also has Owings Mills Collision center, it's about 500 feet down the street.

They do fabulous work. I had a BMW North America rep look at the paint swirls on my black M4 they immediately repolished the car and it looks fantastic! Competed under warranty.
