Internet on a leased car
I've had my car one year now, and the reason I know this is that BMW are texting me to update my connected-drive subscription! Seems its down to the fact that the 'Internet Option' is only valid for a year (whereas the connect-drive services are 3 years), and that further payments are needed (£80 p.a.).
When I ordered my company car, no one mentioned that the option was only valid for a year, and certainly didn't mention any additional costs. Now if I'm honest, the internet thing is pants and I never use it - but that's not the point. So I have moaned to the lease company that someone should pay it, or give me my money back (I think it was only £100ish). Anyone else come across this issue? TIA

I see no liability on behalf of the leasing company whatsoever. Did they mention that you would have to put diesel in it?
It's a running expense. I suppose you might be able to argue the toss if you have a fully-maintained package.

I don't think BMW has ever been clear with how Connecteddrive subscriptions works. I thought it was bad in Canada where there were no brochures and no breakdown on how the features work and how to pay for them after.
When I called BMW Assist, they mentioned that Teleservices, Emergency SOS, Advanced Real Time Traffic Information and Remote services are good for 3 years. Concierge is good for 2 years and Internet is good for 1 year. She had to talk to her supervisor to get the answer.

Yeah, it's a fully maintained package. And I knew I needed to stick diesel in it.
I guess either way it's not clear. I definitely wouldn't recommend Internet to any potential new owners ðŸ˜

The connectdrive subscription, on the other hand, I find really good. Sending directions straight to car from laptop etc.

You don't have that perk on our cars I'm afraid. Best you can do is get the fans to blow a little air around the car which might help a tiny bit on hot days but it's easier to open the windows as you unlock the car. My old 53 plate X5 had the wabsco extra heater on & that was epic with the remote to warm before I set off. New oil burners do warm up much quicker mind so not to much of an issue, especially with bum warmer seats & a heated steering wheel |
