Anybody using the M Track Day App?
I used it for the 1st time on Tuesday and found a few issues. On the track map the position of the car puts me on the other side of the curbing or turtles(honest I was on the track)and the G loadings are much lower than I have seen using Harry's Lap Timer.

Same here. The car position relative to the track is not very precise. I wonder if the imprecision comes from innacurate positioning of the google maps rather the car's GPS coordinates themeselves.
The laptimer is likely not as precise as a good quality real data aquisition system, but for the money (free ) and convenience, I find it plenty sufficient for my use.

I've had Harry's Lap-Timer since I think 2011 now, always been a great app and has come a long way's. Haven't tried M Track Day but don't see the need to do so.

This is due to the low 1hz refresh rate of the GPS. This means it pulls a position 1 time every second. If you are traveling at 100 mph then in the time it takes to pull another position you have traveled 146 feet! So the margin of error is huge. 10hz (10 updates per second) is accurate to within one tenth of a second. I have compared 10hz gps times to transponder times and was impressed with how accurate 10hz gps timing can be!
If you are looking for low budget then get Harry's Lap Timer app with an external 10hz GPS. I have Harry's for Android with a Qstarz 10hz GPS. If you want something a little higher end you can check out solutions from Racelogic, AIM, etc.. I also have an older Performancebox which has a built in 10hz GPS. It is showing its age since everything is now an APP on your phone, but it is a standalone unit with great software to break down sessions. http://www.vboxmotorsport.com/index....performancebox Last edited by M3NetNerd; 06-06-2015 at 10:52 AM.. |

I'd never had data acquisition before, so I loved using the app! Though, given that it's a street car w/o track safety (roll cage, harness, etc...) I'm actually questioning how much I should be trying to max out the performance of the car.
Perhaps this will be my first foray into getting my F82 track set up the way I have my E46... damn.
