Always used Castrol 5/30 here. Remapped with DPF delete.

Feel like changing oil. Not sure why and i probably don't need to.

What do you think would be achieved by switching to an 0w oil?

0w oils are slightly thinner when cold compared with a 5w, but thats it, it makes no difference once at operating temperature.

yeh it never gets that cold to justify a 0w tbh

normally you tend to go up in viscosity (even a word? lol) when you start tuning things due to the extra heat that normally comes hand in hand with more power , hence my reason to wanting to maby hop up from 5w30 to 5w40

good brand oils do out perform the cheap ones in hard use , that said there's nothing wrong with comma oil for day to day driving , key is to have regular changes , track use is slightly different again due to the temps the oil will get and break down that occurs (once oil is burnt its bin material)

castrol/mobil/motul/millers and anything with a good ester is normally what i stick to but everyone's diffrent

Castrol Edge Titanium FST 0w-30 **
10,000 miles change intervals
2008 335d with 90,000 miles, no DPF, EGR blocked, and Ecotune stage 3 remap

** I did use 5w-30 but when Castrol brought out the improved TITANIUM FST formula I switched to that which is not available in 5w-30 yet

Hey Martin,

Do you think its worth going to 0w30 titanium? I use 5w30 castrol every 7-10k

Hey Martin
Do you find it has helped allot using the 0w-30? In terms of the common black smoke that us non dpf 335d owners have?

Castrol Edge 5W-30.

Remapped, 118k. Doesn't use any oil between intervals.

Cheapest place to get it from that I could find is below.

I like the black reek haha (I don't have dpf)

If your remapped but not planning on heavy track castrol titanium 5w40 might be a good oil to choose

Like I say regular oil change is more important imo , and ll04 doesn't really matter if your running with no dpf

I can't see any noticable difference in smoke output at WOT

Gulf gvx 5w30 - have dpf so using this. Opie recommended this to me as ll04 and also vw507 which is one of the hardest specs to meet so exceeds the ll04 by quite abit. Also cheap aswell. I think I got it at £23 for 5 litres

I use mobil esp 5w30 in a remapped dpf off 335d. Purely for the reason it comes in 5litre container compared to castrol 4l, so I have loads left over for a top up
