Dinan Shockware install
I recently installed Dinans' shockware in my 228. I HIGHLY recommend this relatively inexpensive upgrade. The car handles night and day differently. No more floaty extra bouncy effect. Even comfort is float free but also still comfortable. Dinan truly did an outstanding job. Almost no body roll even with quick transitions. The nose doesn't raise or lower with heavy acceleration or hard braking. The back end likes to come out now too but overall the car feels extremely planted and flat. I'm currently on my OE runflats. Time for a tire upgrade. It's too bad the car didn't come like this from the factory. I'm extremely impressed. No other suspension mods installed.

So happy to hear this. I am getting this upgrade on Monday. Thank you so much for reporting your impressions; they are exactly as I was hoping mine would be.

Also the BMW dealership I go to is an authorized Dinan dealer. It made for an easy installation process. They were giving 10% off coupons. Act fast!

Is the Dinan Shockware eligible for the M235i coupe yet? I can't imagine any differences between the adaptive suspension on the F30 and the adaptive suspension on the F22?

I think I read somewhere that the adaptive suspension on the M235i is unique to the car. Makes sense seeing as the are having trouble with the F22 M Adaptive that they haven't had before.

Comfort is completely worthless to me in stock form—even my wife throws it in sport before backing out of the garage—so this will undoubtedly be the first thing done to the car. That said, considering BMW's history of LEGO-like cross-model upgrades, I want to have a full grasp of the system and its variants before I pull the proverbial trigger. |

Are you referring to that one short quote from the BMW marketing guy? He said only the 235, not the 228, has electronic dampers. (which leads me to discredit his info) Came out sometime in the spring of 14 if i recall correctly. I haven't found any where else that the ED systems are different. I'd like to know. The cars are different weights so I'd imagine they would be tuned differently but I'm wondering if the 35 has more valves or something..

Very happy with the upload so far, in fact probably a little too happy, I got a speeding ticket from the CHP while testing it out on the 134 Freeway in Glendale...
The car feels more eager and a little looser, I even felt a twitch in the rear, which I do not think the understeering factory setup would have produced, even in Sport +. Throttle response seems more sensitive, cornering more flat and planted with less body roll. I hope I am not imagining all this, so do please contribute your own impressions. I do not think it's a placebo. |

Glad you like it. Those are pretty much my thoughts as well. Although they didn't alter the throttle. I think since the car tilts less when you hit the throttle it gives the appearance its more sensitive. Something about staying flat and ridding of the extra movement, it gives the sensation of taking off quicker. At least that's how I'm trying to understand it. But I did feel that too. Ironically since theres less weight transfer to the rear it'll decrease traction so be careful! |

I'm *thinking* about having this done. About 2 yrs into a 3 year lease but strong likelihood of keeping the car once the least is done. (unless I do something stupid and cough up retirement funds for the M2...) I'm in the pasadena/glendale area - the Dinan site says the closest dealer is Avus Autosport in Glendale, there's a few other stuff in west hills, anaheim, the OC, etc. Are there well-reviewed Dinan Dealers in SoCal? I assume there must be...

I wish I knew some highly rated shops for ya. I had mine done at Crevier BMW in Santa Ana with no problems. Although I've sinced moved to Irvine BWM for all my services. Crevier's customer service is less than stellar. Thankfully it's just software so the shop might matter less? |
