to get nav or leather..
Hey all,
I have been reading this forum for a couple months now nonstop after several of my friends have gotten E90/92's. Thank you in general for providing the public with such great info. I think I am getting ready to buy a Montego Blue E92 with sport(I want the oil cooler, just wish i didn't feel the need to switch out the wheels! M6's or CSLs...yeah yeah played out here, but this forum is a small population of all owners...). I am not a big options person so that is about it. My one friend has a montego coupe with the leatherette, and I thought it was leather. I was very impressed with the overall look/feel of the material used as it did not seem much different than the leather in my father's 5 series from 2000. Here is my dilemma... I saw the saddle brown in person and loved the color. However I have a boxer who goes everywhere with me. I am worried about leather seats and dog claws. While I love the brown-blue combo the black leatherette wouldn't kill me. So then I wonder...I can do nav for 2100 instead of the leather stand alone. But I have ZERO experience with BMW's nav system. How do you guys like it as a system? I saw the voice commands thread, seems kinda cool. I do have a friend in Cali that loves it but I am in NJ and cannot play with it hands on. Looking back would you order you car with nav again? Or just get a good unit like the pioneer N3 and do nav that way? (I have access to the pionner for cheap through work so it is a viable option for me, and I can still get the leather. I haven't seen many head units in BMW's though...any reason?) Thanks alot for the feedback. I really appreciate it. Joe p.s. I am not trying to start a pro/con nav thread. I know all that. simply wondering about the functonality and quality of BMW's systems. |

simple enough. lol. How is your leather holding up? My dad barely has 40k miles on a 7 yr old 528. I dont feel like his is a real world example of how my car would wear. I am in my car constantly, so is my dog.
Also if I chose a lease does anyone know how the nav is residualized in the financing? SOme companies make yo pay 100% of any options/accs even though they get extra value later on. |

+1. i sat in my friends e90 with leatherette and couldnt tell the difference between his and mine with leather. i have idrive and do not regret it. it lags every so often, but provides a lot of features that i enjoy. navi has definitely come in handly numerous times. if i were to get my car again, i would definitely go for idrive again.

with the nav, obviously the idrive is not the best nav system out there. but imo, i dont regret getting it either. i agree with a.l.e.x. it has its pros and cons, but i've become so used to my nav that i use it all the time vs before, when i actually didnt reall use it.

Get them both, you will regret it later and neither can really be retrofitted easily.

I'd get the Nav and leatherette.
The leatherette looks and feels great, costs less, and will hold up and look new a lot longer. most everyone on this board is tech savvy and will vote for the NAV. You need to ask yourself are you are willing to learn how to use it. I personally love the Navi and would not accept the car without it. I am a tech savvy person so learning the navi came easily for me. If you not tech savvy and dont learn new technology items quickly then you should prob opt not to get it. |

I thought I could live without sports and premium. Now I am retrofitting bluetooth, homelink, sports steering. leatherette isn't so bad. Doesn't hide the dust as well though. |

I'm in the same boat, have retrofitted the m-tech steering wheel, next are the zsp seats (sitting at home right now waiting for the transplant) <-- and please, no pms asking where I got them; I got them here, some guy happened to have them lying around.
Next car, fully loaded for me.

I think it depends on how long you plan on keeping your car. OEM Nav is going to seem completely ghetto in five years, but your ass will still be appreciating leather seats.

I could be wrong, but I thought if you ordered sport, you'll get leather anyhow. Can you get sport w/leatherette? Anyhow, there are all kinds of seat covers you can get for carrying animals - you may want to check into that option.

then you're not a true enthusiast. A real driving enthusiast would get (well, a true sports car, but that's besides the point) the bare miminum, no extra options. Just a base car with zsp. A true driving enthusiast doesn't not need the bells and whistles to distract him/her from driving.
