X6M F86. They say it needs to broke the first 2000 km....

then can do full M and high RPM and higher speed? or it does not matter?

I'm right now in Vegas in the BMW M Power experience... one of the programs today included a drive see a park and that was some 30 miles more o less from the track.
Instead of that driving the X5 M I preferred to ride along Walter Haupt... He is the head engineer for the new X5 M and X6 M.
I asked him the same question... what the deal with the break in...
He explained me its very important due to the amount of torque the car has, and that best way to do it is by driving in manual mode and breaking a lot with the engine instead of the the breaks, he told me play with the paddles and rev it maximum to 5500 rpm...
Hope this answers your question

Yes, there is a break-in period of 1200 miles, not to exceed 5500 rpm. Around 1200 miles, you should take your car to the dealer for the 1200 mile service.

you will find tons of info on new engine break in. you must keep in mind BMWs general audience, IE people with zero wrenching skills. they come up with the best program to ensure engine peak performance and reliability given the environment they have to work with (the consumer).
Engine builder have an entirely different approach and methodology. purpose of the break in is to seat the rings.

I myself having broken in many new engines have gather information along the way to ensure years of service. This would be to vary engine rpm (city driving) under 80% load for the first 100 miles. after that continue to vary engine speed and avoid cursing RPM for a sustained period while putting engine under heavy load 95% and high RPM for the next 1100 miles.

Again you will have the naysayers detract from my method citing (you know more then the people who engineer the cars and motors from BMW)....No I do not but this method has worked for me and MANY other high performance engine builders.

And avoid freeway driving! Constant RPM is very bad for break-in.

The best way to achieve what many said above (changing RPM, engine braking, and etc) is to drive mountain roads.
