PSS not available, so whats next?

Of course the Michelin PSS is on a 4+ week back order in size I want... So what's the next best comparable tire?
I just bought new wheels and tires for my 2009 Z4 35i and I went with the Conti DW, and needless to say, they suck! The traction is awesome, and they hold great in a continuous turn, but you better be damn careful when making corrections at high speed! These tires feel like I'm riding on balloons and at at high speed, a slight wiggle of the steering wheel is down right dangerous!

So... Discount Tire is willing to replace them for a 100% refund and I'm currently looking for new tires... The problem, just when I finally got the nerve to pull the trigger on the PSS's, no body has them for who knows how long.

I'm looking for 235/35/19 and 275/30/19 summer tires as the car only gets driven on sunny days

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated?

Some tires I'm considering...

Potenza RE-11... I'm worried about tread life though

Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2

Pirelli P Zero of some sort

Hankook RS3s if you want better dry traction than PSS but you give up some wet traction.

Had them on my S2K and they were awesome.

Those look nice, but they don't seem to come in a 275/30/19...

I have a set of Yokohama Advan AD08R 235/35R19 and 275/30R19. I put 2 miles on the rear but had to step down to a 265 due to slight rubbing. I have the PSS on my other wheels and these tires offer much more grip.

I have positive experience dealing with them. They had my sizes PSS 255/35-18 and 275/35-18 and shipped them for about $750/800 or almost $200 less than competitors.

s04 in my opinion is not very good, is old model, expensive and wears out fast, but you already bought them, and if they are installed already you are better off sticking with them until you need new set.

I just ordered them today and they left the warehouse already. I'll probably get them tomorrow but even if I return them I'm paying $50-60 shipping costs:\

I have been calling the wheeldiscountwarehouse and they don't pick up the phone. I tried all the options and I keep hearing a "click" like they are hanging up on me. Could be their phone system is broken. Not a very good first impression, and their S&H is DOUBLE that of TireRack's.

I don't know if this company is legit. I dialed the Toll 714# and it said "leave a message" or hit *. Either option will hang up on you. I think I am going to stay away from this company. (www.discountedwheelwarehouse.com)

The S-03's don't come in my size either... I'm realizing that there is a limited selection in 275/30/19 for max performance summer tires.
So, now I'm starting to lean towards the RE-11's...

Have you guys looked at the Falken summer tires? They are really good. I have been using the Falken 615 (and before that 215) with other cars and I can't say enough good things about them. Most of the auto-x and weekend track community uses Falkens, but the 615 is a street legal DOT tire, so if you don't autocross, you probably don't want this tire. It's fricking awesome in the street though

Anyway the 615 has a short tread life because it is an aggressively stickly tire.
The newest summer tire (came out ~2 years ago) from Falken that is comparable to the PSS is the FK453. There were some threads about it here last year and 2013. The reviews I read on several web sites were very favorable and many reviewers said they were very quiet and on par with the Michelin PSS in dry/wet traction, and tread life (10-15k mi. real life driving which is what I get with PSS since I can't rotate them).

I am considering the FK453 now because I can't find PSS. Falken FK453 is also about 30% cheaper than PSS. I have owned 4 sets of Falken summer/DOT tires since 2002 and I never had a problem with them. The latest summer Falkens are also great in the rain/wet. I have won dozens of SCCA events in my class with the 215 and 615 and was the class champion in STX (street tire class) for 2 years using the Falken 615 going against much faster cars with my Integra (like WRX). That was my daily driven tire too (on my GSR) and I always got 8-9K mi. out of the 215's or 615's which included 2 seasons of auto-x events (25-30 events for me) which are hard on tires. For that reason I am going to try the slightly less aggressive FK453 on my 335. Porsche and Vette owners use them too.. I can get a set of 225/40-18 and 255-35-18 for under $600 shipped from Discount Tire.

Anyone use the FK-453 on their Bimmer?

Harry

That's not a good sign. I might stick with my S04. I've had them on two different vehicles and never had any issues

You could sub the 275/30 with a 265/30 instead. Still within 1%. It's 0.236in difference in diameter and 0.394in difference in width.

I really like having 275's for that extra width... 265's on a 9.5" wheel just look a little too stretched for my taste. That, and the PSS in that size are back ordered too

Those Falken's look pretty nice, but I'd worry about buying a tire without a reputation behind it, and I fear the "you get what you pay for" biting me in the a** lol

Has anyone here tried them, or the RE-11's ??

PSS in 265/30 are in stock on tire rack.

I agree tho, I don't like the stretched look either.

As for the RE-11, Tirerack rates them best in class for Extreme Performance Summer. So I'd say get them.
