When will the future G20-based M3 arrive?

Given all the LCI convos going on, when is the next complete model change M3 supposed to be out? 2018? I've heard 2022 as well due to new water injecton systems.

LCI is now out
So F30 will be replaced in 3,5 years.
Dont expect M3 version for 1 to 2 years after that

Lol, I got a car from my dealer's first allocation and it's not even a year old yet. Should be about 6 years from now I guess.

I'm merely curious when the next new model body would be available. I might not be driving bimmers by then, either - but curious regardless..=).

BMW model cycles are seven years. The M's usually come out 12 to 24 months after the new models are released.

For the uninformed, what would be the lower to upper range for the next M3? 5 to 8 years?

I would narrow that down to 6-7 years. ...just an educated guess though.

2018 is likely when the M3 will stop
2020 is likely when this M4 will stop

2022 is probably when the next generation M3 and M4 is here

so we're unlikely to see design changes to the M3 for the next 8 years? hard to believe.

Everything is based around the seven year cycle of the Series model.

The F30 began production in early 2012 (well, technically late 2011) so we can expect the G20 sedan to begin in early 2019. The G21 touring will come a few months later. In mid to late 2020, about 1.5 years after the G20, the G22 coupe will arrive. And then sometime in early 2021 the G23 convertible will join the pack.

(I'm leaving off the GC and GT models because they've only been around for one generation and it's not even certain yet that they will continue in the same form.)

So the Gxx M3/M4 should be here sometime around mid 2021. The M4 convertible will be the last to arrive late that year.

There's still a chance they will finally break the M3 and M4 debuts apart like they do with the M5 and M6. This could mean the M3 would arrive sooner - say late 2020. But this would depend on BMW building more separation between the 3 Series and 4 Series from a design perspective, and it's not clear yet whether they are heading that direction or not.
