Best radar detector
Hey guys, this is for people who primarily drive in long island. What radar detector do you recommend? My two choices are v1 or 9500ix. So what is everyone's thoughts and personal experiences on these two?

has anyone tried GPS enabled Escorts? with speeding and red light camera locations. i have V1 and love it but thinking with all these cameras being installed might need to utilize new technology

V1 and I always have Waze open on my iPhone. Waze tells you camera locations for free. No need to buy another radar detector just to get the capability.

V1 is the crowned king of false alerts and laser gaps. the arrows are merely useful to spot the general vicinity of the latest radar guided cruise control system.
as to laser, if you aren't running a shifter/jammer, detectors only detect that you are going to be pulled over, they offer zero "detection" past that. also, 9500ci ftw

Valentine V1. 9 years, 0 tickets. Saved me too many times to count.
Full disclosure, I only use it on highway trips, never when driving locally. Consistently receive first warning .75 miles in advance and the arrows and bogey counter have proven invaluable. I've used a friends passport with GPS. Nice, but I prefer the V1. |

+1. Had a V1 few years ago and sold it off on CL after 3 months of nonstop false alarms...
It was only useful out in the in open areas, i.e. on way to Las Vegas.

I have been with Escort for years now. From the 8500, to the 9500 and now the Max. The 9500 and the Max have the GPS lockout, which is excellent so it minimizes false signals. The Max also has a nice color LCD screen and also your MPH. Plus, it's an overlooked part but if you are not hardwiring your radar detector, the Escorts now some with the "stickycup" windshield mount that literally never fall off. |
