Windshield Replacement
So, after 10 days and 684 miles I got my second windshield chip today. Unsure if these windshields are just particularly fragile, or I'm just very unlucky.
The second chip was a "spider fracture", which got dramatically worse when repaired. I *then* discovered that a new windshield? **$3200** including labor, and will require vehicle coding when replaced (and there goes my custom coding!). So.... make sure you've got decent glass coverage! |

Wow, sorry to hear you're going through that so soon into ownership. $3200 is a good bit, certainly more than I'd have expected. What do they need to code for with a windshield replacement? Is it to do with the head-up display?

Wow, that's unreal! Only 684 miles and the windshield needs to be replaced? Sorry for your troubles.

It's about $1700 for the windshield itself, plus labour. I suspect the windshield is spendy as it's "solar glass" and supports the HUD. I suspect the coding is due to the array of cameras for speed limit / collision detection etc around the mirror cluster. I was told it's necessary to "recalibrate" after the install.
