Its gonna be a while ! Though I respect your decision, I bought a m235i Last October, probably gonna step up to a m2 once the craziness dies down after its release, That is if its all that I hope it will be, if not just wait an extra year or so and order a stripped m4

The m2 will be hard to get especially within the first year . To have a 235i for 2 years isn't that bad .

And down at the theatre in 2016, the M235i (M240i) will be the 'warm-up act', the appetizer, when quite some people are still chit-chatting with each other, texting, checking pictures and kindly turning to the stage to applaud after each song ...but in the end looking forward to the 'headliner' (M2) taking the stage and raising the roof.

I personally don't think the release of the M2 will have a very big impact on the value of a 1-2 year old M235i on the used car market. A brand new M2 vs a used M235 are two different buyer segments. The M235 will have a normal depreciation curve. If I may speculate I think the release of a true 2-series M car may even boost the interest in the used market for a "M2.35".

What's upsetting is how I hyped myself up for a month and a half to get the M235, originally missing out on a sick deal, so I could have my first car and also be able to drive to las Vegas with my girl and other girlfriend for the mayweather fight on may 2, but it dient happen. I really love the m235, and when I was getting it, I wasn't even aware of the M2..

I can't afford an M4 now, I can in a few months easily, but not just right now...so my trip I've been planning didn't happen.

Really feel bummed out about it.let my broker and salesperson down to after all the hype and constantly having them work for me

I tried to wait but couldn't. I'm still on my dealers wait list for an M2 and excitedly looking forward to getting one but after being behind the wheel of the M235i for 5 minutes I had to order one. I'm enjoying it holding me over until I get my M2

I am ready for a car this year and trying to hold out for the 2, but the 235 is compelling and I can buy it now.

However, a low mileage 911 can be had now for just a little more than the anticipated m2 cost.

Some final news release would help me decide to stay the course or get the 235, 911 or ...

I don't think it will be that hard to get an M2 when they start selling them, they will be mass produced much like the M235i, and I'm sure lots would rather have the M3/4, I'm going to wait until the fuss dies down and all the kinks are ironed out then decide if it's worth it

I think more and more that I'll be content with the 235. The m2 will be marginally sharper and faster, but the move from the msport model will probably be much smaller than a move from a 335 to an m3.

For someone who rarely goes to the track and lives in a country without an autobahn, I just don't think there are many pitfalls that an m2 will fix over the 235. The rear profile is the one negative that I have with my car, and that's not a lot of negatives after 15k on the odometer.

If I didn't have the 235, I might have tried to step up to the m2. But as an upgrade option it makes a lot less sense. The one thing that would push me into an m2 could really be the ED experience which was unbelievable in the 235i(but the 1200mile break in period would make the first portion just a tad lame in an m2).

I'd order an rs4 with a manual in a heartbeat, but as that doesn't exist, Ill just continue enjoying the 2er.

It would appear to me that you are making a comparison and decision between the M235i and the M2 based purely on assumption which is in turn based on limited information.

If we could dial the clock back to 2011 and you were making the same assumption and decision on a 135i vs the then unreleased 1M assuming it would be only "marginally sharper and faster" you would have been more than marginally incorrect and perhaps more than marginally regretful.

I had a 335m loaner and it floats like a grandma car compared to the M3. The suspension, brake, body roll and feel is comparing a sports car to a sports coupe. I did not like that car and liked the M235 way better than the 335m.

Overall I expect the M2 being better than the M235 as much as the M3 being better than the 335m. Because of this, I'm probably a few that would downgrade a M3 for the M2. I feel my current M3 is like the modern M5 from years back.

It will be interesting to see how many M3 buyers move down to the M2 - not a lot I suppose as this is a decent compromise for a family that needs 4 doors.

M4 buyers, not sure? There is still more space for friends and family, and a few may see the 4 as a more prestigious status symbol over the 2?

We would have been comparing the 135is to the 1M. I've never driven a 1M, so I can't really say anything here. But I've been in the cayman s over the years, including the most recent one, and the difference in everyday driving between the 235i and the cayman doesn't feel that substantial. It's sharper, you sit lower, the stick is beautifully weighted, the steering has more feel, but you lose on the power and some of the stupid things you can do with a 235 in the corners.

People make their own decisions with how much experience they want to have behind the wheel over and above where they are now. Mine might be slightly different.

The 135is didn't become available until 2013 I believe, so that comparison couldn't have happened in 2011.

That being said, regardless of what the M2 turns out to be, if you're happy with your M235i then that's all that matters. It's certainly a great car.
