Insurance recommendation in NJ!?
Hey guys,
I'm in north NJ. Waiting for the m3 to arrive stateside first week of May and just wanted to know if anyone can recommend an agent that they deal with that has good rates but also is on top of his/her stuff. The agent I'm dealing is giving me major problems when it comes to customer service. Just a pain. Thanks in advance.

There is this little green lizard friend of mine, who also happens to be an insurance agent. He's quite successful and famous too ... on TV quite a lot! I would recommend him.

If you have any distant or close military ties (as to someone who is or have served) then USAA is by far the best insurance company you will ever have the pleasure of doing business with. I have been a customer for all my insurance needs since 1986.

My wife's parent company owns Geico (she's a VP at a corporate liability insurance group) and even she won't use Geico. Take that for what it's worth and from someone in the industry.
We use Progressive. They are fantastic with their claims when you need to use them.

She believes they advertise great rates, however.

Get in an accident while you are "covered" by geico and see what happens.
Get USAA if you can. I thought they were accepting referrals from current members at one point in time. It has been decades since I was in an accident where I was at fault. Ive been rear ended and side bashed in the last few years. I dont have to do a thing other than talk to USAA. I get my repairs done with oem parts at reputable shop that USAA guarantees for life. USAA takes care of everything from my repair to getting the other insured to pay. Some other insurance companies will make you go through the at-fault party insurance....good luck getting good service, oem parts and a reputable shop to do the repair. |

Progressive is also excellent at this. Haven't been "at fault" for as long as I can remember, but have made more than a few claims. Their service is excellent. That is why we continue to stay loyal to them after all these years.

I never actually had to make a claim on my behalf and switched 5 years ago because their rate went sky high due to me moving 15 miles south solely due to the zip apparently being flagged for uninsured motorists or something. I never actually use my insurance that I've paid for all this time other than one instance to replace a cracked windshield with HUD. YMMV |

I've been with Allstate for years, but the rates have really gone crazy.
I was also in a accident where I had no fault. I had to panic stop to avoid hitting a car that had stopped in the highway, no flashers. After I stopped, a big ol' Mercury slammed into my rear and pushed me into the car that had stopped- at maybe 5mph. All was great till a month later when two bozos who happened to be riding in the Rav4 my 135i was pushed into realized they had been horribly injured- and decided they could no longer work. Allstate has been very good- fixed the car with all OEM parts, and defended me well. But the rates are going crazy.... Geico swears I could use OEM parts in the event of an accident.....don;t trust a lizard??

USAA wanted literally 2 times the amount Progressive wanted for my cars. I've had zero problems with Progressive as well.

I believe the problem with Geico, and why I didn't go with them despite being much much cheaper than State Farm, was because of their labor rates.

I shop every few years but don't find meaningful savings at identical coverages (it is easy to save by cutting coverage and increasing deductibles). Even if I did, my claims experience has been so good over the years that I probably wouldn't change. Still, I know each company's rates can vary quite a bit from state to state, so it is wise to shop. If pricing it the issue, shop that; if it is service (OP mentioned agent is poor), then USAA is as good as they come. |

I have geico and have had for several years. One of the reasons we ended up with a f80 is my girls IS300 was totaled but getting decent value for that car has been a chore. I think the claims process is all about the adjuster and their regional boss... With any company. If you have joeshmo insurance and have quality local people in charge of claims adjustment you'll likely be happy in the unfortunate event you have to deal with them...
Looks like mercury will be cheaper for us by about 200 a term once a ticket drops off my record (next month) so well likely be switching to them then. |
